Hi, I am new to this site because I am so frustrated I am about to pull my hair out. I am trying to run my tv through the stereo(Technics). I have a Symphonic tv with one set of audio out. I have DishNetwork and am wondering if I have to go from audio out on the dish box to the stereo instead of from the back of the tv. When I go from audio out on the back of the tv to audio in on the back of the stereo, nothing comes out of the speakers. When I hook the cd player to audio in on the stereo, it works just fine so it is definately an issue with the tv/dish system. Can anyone advise me? Thanks, Diane

I'm assuming you are connecting it via standard red-white RCA cable when I answer, but as long as you connect audio out on the satellite box to an available audio in on either your TV or stereo, you should be fine. Make sure your TV is set to AV1 or whatever you have hooked up to in order to get sound or make sure your stereo is set to whatever audio in connection you went to. If you have an optical cable input on your stereo, do what BremenHusker suggested.

there is only one audio in for tv/dvd/cd on the stereo. Once I plug that cable into the back of the stereo, can I have the dish and the cd player hooked up at the same time and where do I plug each in?

How many inputs do you have on your stereo? Usually, TV is one, DVD is another, CD is another, etc.

KAB thanks so much for that plan. I will work on that and see how it goes. I didnt know I could hook up the dvd player to the vcr input.

All RCA audio inputs are interchangeable EXCEPT Phono, which takes a pre-amped signal.

If you go from the dish box audio out to the stereo audio in, you should get sound when the Dish box is on.

You may have to set your TV to aux audio output. In other words you may have to tell the TV to put sound out of the audio out instead of the built in speakers.

Otherwise, it should put out sound when you hook your TV audio out to the audio in on the stereo, but you said it's not.

Ok, here is my next challenge with this situation. My dish box is in one room because it needs to be near a phone jack. The tv in question is in the living room but runs off the dish box in the other room. I can go run the cable under the floor from one room to another but do they make that red and white cable long enough? I usually just see them a foot or two long.

Get a longer phone cord and move the receiver close to your TV/Receiver. Hopefully, you have enough coax from the dish for that move.

Back to the original question. I use the TV audio out to my Bose Cinemate system. I had to go to the TV setup and turn the TV's speakers off for it to work. Simple - have you tried that?
