Just started full time rving 2 wks ago. At camping world they told me I could get tv but not internet for a reasonable price so I bought their satellite dish and the dish network receiver vip211k. Well it's starts the 1 of 5 sets for setup and doesn't get past the 2nd step. It will stop in the middle of 2 and say make sure the cables are connected. We have them directly connected to the receiver and it's still not recognizing it and the dish people are stumped. The second step says installing switch before it stops... is this a software issue that it's got to have before it even connects to the satellite?

I've got all the receipts and packaging so returning it shouldn't be a problem just bought it 3 days ago. 45 minutes away from the store, however, I did not see a dish called a tailgater at the store I was at. The dish I got is a wineguard mp1. So the dish not the receiver is the issue

The tailgater is definitely the best option. It will automatically configure and aim itself upon connecting it to the 211 receiver. Did you get this in Savannah? I live here and could feasibly pick you up a tailgater at Dow Electronics if you'd like when you return the other one. Hit me with a message if you'd like some assistance.

Hey travelrn. It looks like Camping World actually carries the tailgater. Ask them about it. I would however be glad to pick one up and meet you somewhere if they don't or if you need some help. Regardless, good luck with it and you won't be dissapointed!

Not sure what they charge for the receiver and dish either but it may be cheaper to get it through a retail outlet.

In looking at the dish they sold you it requires manual aiming I believe. You could do that yourself but you'd need a signal meter for sure and it would require repositioning if you want to switch sat positions. The tailgater does all that for you.

Wondering what was done for account setup too or if it was just a receiver buyout from Camping World. It'd be best to sign a contract and get a free receiver and discounts for a year if it's going to be used full time.

Mine is doing exactly the same thing as yours is. I updated my software on both the main and RF boards and what you have described is what is frustrating me. Did you ever figure out how to get through step 2, or did you return your dish?

Try this. When stuck at Step 2, hit *#* (star, pound, star) on the remote, should take you to the point dish screen. Select "Check Switch", then "Test" on the next screen. Let the receiver run the switch check (Attention 058, Please wait while your switch installation is checked), after done, should see the sats (at least 119/110 for western arc and at least 72/61.5 eastern arc), hit done. Hit done on the point dish screen. Cancel all the way out to main menu, then turn the receiver off for 5 minutes. Turn it back on and see what it says, it may have finished the software download by then.
