One thing I really hate about Satellite is all the stupid shopping channels, had them all blocked. Well, since Dish stuck HSN on ch 84, for some reason I can't block the stupid thing. I go in, block it, make sure the system is locked, and it's gone.... but then it shows back up the next day. I have a VIP211.

Anyone have a clue what might be going on. Anyone notice the same thing?

I noticed channel 84 too, I thought it was one of the locals, I'm in AZ. I didn't think Dish put channels down that low . . .

I know you want to "block" it, but how about just using a favorites list? That should work.

I tried to block channel 84 and lock it out in the channel locks section and it comes back each day like a bad penny. THis is some kind of forced channel by Dish . I can even block out all the other shopping channels , excess duplicate hd channels in the 6400 range, but not channel 84.

This has got to be the brainchild of one of their marketing weasels who needs to be strung up by his toes for such a stupid idea.

Tried that. No dice. Looks like others are running into the same thing..... :(

Guess I should email ceo. That was one of the reasons I left comcast. You couldn't hide channels you didn't want to show.

I read somewhere that speculation is that this is a "test" between HSN and Dish to see how the placement of the channel works. If that's the case, it's not surprising that they might in fact be disabling the ability to block the channel. I would bet that if this experiment works positively for HSN and they remain at ch 84, we'll be able to block it. If the experiment fails, they'll go back to their ch 2xx slot.

I see that even creating a FAVORITES list doesn't seem to work. For those who had an existing favorites list, did ch 84 appear in it too ??

I checked today and it is back again on both of my 622s. It may be a software related thing with the 622 only. I don't know but I will not watch this channel EVER.

Maybe Dish will start offering for an additional fee to those channels to be put in a certain area of the EPG, to prevent the channel from being blocked for another fee, to be put on all favorite lists for another fee, to be put towards the top of the list for another fee, to have their ad on the DVR list for another fee. You know, nickel and dime them to death like they do us. It's all about the money.

Yep I can see it know. For all Locking out features we will charge you 5.99 a month. Dish is going to nickel and dime themselves right out of business.

In this case, I'll bet it's simply because it's a shopping channel.

In other cases, you can tune to a channel you're not subscribed and get a message like "You don't currently get this channel. Press OK to order it." I don't want my kids ordering a bunch of channels. Or, I don't want the adult channels to even show up in the guide because my kids know how to read and they don't need to read even the titles of some movies ! How 'bout PPV ?? "Press SELECT to order this event". No thanks. I do realize I can block these channels in other ways or require PINs too.

Finally, as petty as this seems, blocking channels allows your guide to show "more" at a time that you do subscribe to.

Just wondering: why would one wish to 'block' a channel; is it not sufficient to simply not select or watch it?

Well, in my case, it's so I don't have to scroll through tons of channels on the guide that I don't subscribe to nor care anything about (all the shopping channels, ppv, etc). The easiest way to get rid of them is to block the channel, then it never shows up in the first place.
