Fellow Sky Angel forum members,

I just want to let you know that I mailed the following letter to Sky Angel in Naples, FL yesterday to cancel my IPTV service. I have been a customer since March. I was not a customer of theirs during the Satellite era. I realize that a $200 cancellation fee may apply to my cancellation, however I did ask for a waiver of that. I am willing to return my equipment. Something that I did not include in the letter, but I will say now is that I would be able to accept paying for the faith package (though I have boxed up the receiver and will not use it again) @ 14.95 for the 12 remaining months = $180 via non automatic billing method. I doubt they will accept this, and acknowledge I am at their mercy for better or worse....

Kevin

Dear Sky Angel
,

Although I have enjoyed being a subscriber of your IPTV service since March of this year, I would like to request cancellation at this time.

I am doing so for two reasons:

1) I have been upset with the quality of specific channel feeds at times, especially on the Fox News Channel. During key moments of the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention your New York servers went down. I was told, to my dis-satisfaction, that all services cable, satellite, IPTV have their down time by one of your representatives when I called on Wednesday of the Republican Convention. This answer was unacceptable to me. I expect Fox News to be as reliable on your service as with Comcast, DirecTV or Dish Network. It's likely that this channel is the most watched on your network among the family channels. You should have anticipated the additional demand that would be placed on the servers. Technically, I should be saying that your partner NeuLion should have anticipated the demand. However, I am not a direct customer of NeuLion.

2) In response to your email dated 9/15 (copy enclosed), I understand this is related to you not being able to charge my method of payment on file. That Visa card number is no longer valid. At this point, I refuse to participate in any automatic billing services with any company. Doing so has caused me significant financial loss in the past and your automatic billing policy has caused me financial hardship also. I am a man of small means -- a full time college student and a part time personal assistant to the disabled. My checking account is almost always near a zero balance and my credit card is always close to the limit. Your automatic billing system has often forced my credit card over its limit and I have incurred several $35 over the limit fees.

I simply cannot accept this. At this time I request to cancel my Sky Angel service without penalty. I am willing to ship my IPTV receiver and remote back to you at my expense. I hope you are understanding of my circumstances and my dis-satisfaction with the service performance issues outlined above.

Please let me know what address to ship the equipment back to.

May you be blessed,

xxxxxxxxxx

Kevin, I have Comcast cable as well as SA IPTV, and Fox News is the most unreliable signal on my Comcast service. I occasionally lose Fox and get a screen message of "no signal." So Fox itself apparently has signal issues. I am also more likely to have buffering issues with Fox on my SA service than any other channel. I'm not sure why, but Fox just has some issues.

Perhaps you could convince SA to allow you to do an on-line bill pay transaction to pay your bill. I hate to see you give up the blessings of the SA IPTV service because of issues that either may have an alternative resolution, or may not really be SA's fault.

JH,

I tried to be as respectful as possible with them. I understand there are consequences to canceling services with contracts to them. It's also been my experience that ETF's can be waived. Back in 2002 when I lost my job, 2 ETF's were waived by Verizon Wireless for me.

In addition to SA Faith and Family Package, I had also been a Subscriber to DirecTV's Basic package (one that most people don't know exists), which gave me my local channels, CSPAN, the Christian stations, XM music chanels for $20 per month. After mailing my cancellation letter in, I upgraded my DirecTV package to Choice for 52.99 per month.

If they do want me to pay the $200 ETF, I would be consider the option to pay $14.95 for the Faith pkg. only, manually....by online bill payment like you said. I'm not going to worry about this now. I'm not angry, stressed or upset by this.

As I side note, I have never had a bad signal from Fox News here in suburban New England either with Comcast or DirecTV.

Don't blame SA for your inability to keep your spending habits under control. If you had problems with this type of payment arrangement in the past why did you get into it again?

Not trying to be judgmental. I was young once and did similar things as well. I have learned not to get into financial arrangements that may come back to bite me.

Thank you for your advice. I'm not angry, about what happened ... a little disappointed with the quality of the service, yes .... but I get your point.

I'm willing to accept the consequences of however Sky Angel wants to deal with the situation. I understand that the terms of their service agreement that was in effect in March 2008 apply to me.

As a side note (not related to my situation): The Sky Angel Customer agreement did change on 7/31/08. I don't have the original text to compare it to.

Kevin,
I was a lifetime Sky Angel member but did not go to the IPTV service because they would not give me any option accept the autopay. I also expected them to have buffering problems and I knew the Bandwith caps were coming. I still watch the Sky Angel Satellite channel for free off my old Dish reciever. I have Comcast cable and internet and my cable has about a 99.8% uptime and I have never had a problem getting fox news. I have been able to get all the radio programs that I listened to to stream free off the internet. I do miss the Liberty Channel and some programs on Conerstone. They or any of the other non charismatic channels are on Glory Star so I have not considered it.

I just wish someone would offer a buy per channel set up. Say 20 channels for $20. And they had ever possible channel to chose from. Since Dish, Comcast or Direct have all the channels at one place that I would want.

Shalom

Thanks for the helpful advice. I may end up keeping the faith package only. I still have not receive a response to my certified letter sent on 9/17. I had actually changed my home phone and personal email address shortly after that date, but I did provide that information to SA so they didn't think I was trying to avoid them.

Sincerely,
Kevin

ANYTHING BETTER?

Was a Sky Angel(SA) customer since about 1998 but did not go with SA iptv until this month(Oct 08). I purchased dish and receiver for Galaxy 25 and AMC 4 and was satisfied with Christian programs but lacks variety. Reviewed Dish, DirecTV, and cable plans. Purchased antennas and amplifier for local HDTV. Signed up for 3.0 mbps DSL and began receiving SA iptv two days ago. Quality is as good or better than satellite. Although I preferred satellite SA because I don't have to rely on internet provider, SA iptv offers best family oriented programming I've found, especially if children are in the household. If you have a dependable high speed internet connection you should be able to receive SA programming. If you want free Christian TV you can get dish and receiver from Glorystar.tv or other dealer.:tux:
