I just want an opinion. I pay currently full price for premier hd service ($104), And I'm TIRED of no movie channels being added.

Choice xtra would be $57.99, and I could then get DIsh network turbohd bronze plus all movie channels for around $69.

It would come a tad more per month, but again, tired of paying $104 a month for such a sh!tty selection of movies.

I want your opinions.

Wow never thought of that way. It is definitely worth it. Gets me thinking about doing it. Especially since you could turn the Dish DVR into a movie box.

Okay I'm looking at this...

For the same price I pay for premier...

Choice xtra would be $57.99+Showtime for $12, so $69.99

DIsh network lowest Turbo HD (bronze package) with HBO, Cinemax, and Starz, $64.99.

Total= $134.98

Directv has:

2 HBO hd channels
2 Cinemax HD
5 Starz HD
6 SHowtime HD

DIsh has:

8 HBO hd
4 Cinemax HD
1 SHowtime HD
6 Starz HD

Combined would be:
8 HBO HD
4 CInemax HD
6 SHowtime HD
6 Starz HD

24 HD channels total for about $15 more per month.

DOes this look good?

IMHO, you're comparing apples to oranges - it comes down to whether you're wanting MANY movie channels w/way fewer basics, or all the basic channels pretty much out there with no movies, but still with a lower price point. Myself, there are just NOT that many movies out there that I get any money's worth out of premiums - I'd much rather keep Choice+ at a lower price point & either DVR premium movies on freebie weekend's, or rent an occasional must-see DVD. (few & far between)

Well I only watch these movie channels usually, I don't care for Directv sports, I just want lots of movie channels.

And the whole point of the topic is to keep all the D* channels except for the premiums, and use the cheapest Dish Turbo HD package for their movie channels.

I did that for quite a while with HD absolute with HBO Cinemax and Starz But with only a Vip 622 and 211, That cost me Less the $83 per month. And D* I had 3 rooms of DVR service with the Choice HD DVR pack, and that cost me just under $90 per month. So thats over $170 Per month. I tried just about everything I could to get the programming I wanted, and enough for the wife and kids. So HD absolute didn't work , only 3 Kids channels. So I just said the heck with It and Dropped D* service down to Family and No HD. and Upped my E* service to the Top 250. If you have 1 HD DVR from D* and E* I'd say go for it , But if you start adding rooms then Just pick 1 provider.

Now I'm paying with E*
$99.98 for everything pack
$14 for 3 HD DVR's
$5.99 Protection Plan
$5.99 For Multi sports pack
$10 for HD Gold
$1.50 KTLA
$1.50 WSKB
Total $138.96 for a 612,622,and 722 3 HD 2 SD

D* I would be paying
$104.99 for Premier pack
$9.99 for HD
$5.99 for Potection plan
$5.99 DVR fee
$19.96 for 5 rooms @ $4.99x4
Total $146.92
So I'd say if you can have both and Stay below either of these totals then great!.

I feel for you man. I juggled Dish, DirecTV, and Bright House Networks for two years looking for the best possible combination of premium channels in HD. I would get so mad at DirecTV for not adding HBO and Max HD channels.

Finally, FIOS came to my neighborhood and I signed up as quick as I could. Now I have all 26 HBO/MAX HD channels, all the Showtime and TMC HD channels, and just about all the Starz HD channels (they don't have the west feed for some reason of the flagship station), with Encore HD coming soon.

I kept DirecTV because of the hefty $$$ rollout for two HD-DVRs in the beginning and the fact that I am in a contract. But I am starting to think I will keep them even when I am out of contract because they have the better DVR and some channels in HD I don't get with FIOS (I also increase my odds of getting new HD channels as they are rolled out by having two providers). I record my non-premium network shows and stuff on channels like Discovery HD on DirecTV and record all my movies and have On Demand with FIOS. The biggest downside to FIOS is the crappy boxes, but you cannot beat the premium movie channel selection. DirecTV is my favorite DVR interface as it stands right now for any provider but they have in fact neglected the premium channels for sure.

I know this may not be a big deal for some...But then you have to have two dishes? Just my thoughts

Or three.... I subscribed to Dish for about 9 months in 2007-2008 here in FL (without locals) and have two small dishes on one part of my roof. On the other end of my roof I have a double sized DirecTV dish. He could very well end up with a mini dish farm.

In my opinion, what is more annoying is the utility area with boxes by two cable companies, Dish, FIOS, the old phone company, the power meter, and a breaker box. I don't think DirecTV has a box, but everything else did. That area looks horrible with all that crap. Even for a utility area, it looks crappy.

OK, I did miss the part you said about keeping D* Choice Xtra - I now see what you're trying to do.
I guess if really DO want the most premiums in HD & you (obviously) aren't fortunate enough to have FiOS or another cable provider with more premiums, this would be the way to get them.

I considered this too, but you don't gain a whole lot from E* in terms of premium movie HD channels. I think E* offers a total of 4 more HD movie channels.

E* is +2 on Cinemax
+ 6 on HBO
-5 on Showtime
+1 on Encore
even up on Starz

For those 4 channels you have to not only pay more, but deal with two sets of dishes, two sets of receivers, two connections to your TVs, etc.

When my current promotion period ends in April, I will likely switch to Dish TurboHD.

When the $18 per month credit ends, the monthly total will be over $90. The TurboHD Silver with Platium HD pack and Showtime will be $60 before tax. Savings of almost $30 per month. (Dexter is the only reason I have Showtime so I won't miss the rest of the Showtime channels that DirecTv has that Dish does not. FxHD is the only channel I watch that I will miss by switching.)

If Dish still offers the Cinemax for 1 year for 1 penny offer in April, then it becomes even more attractive to switch.

Does anyone think or wonder if an HD only package is something that directv would think of adding in the future, maybe to spice things up a bit??
