Sun, Sun and more Sun!!!!
Hypothetically, say I call and cancel Direct and then my wife turns around and calls to get service in her name at the same address.......is there a waiting period for her to get new incentives? Will a Direct say no incentives because the address is the same?

It's a little more complicated than you might think. The very scenario your talking about has literally bit me more than once. Not only are they doing credit checks, but background checks are also included. They know who is who in a household & who is related to who & how, even if the address is different. Dish is doing the same thing. I have personally seen many emails from Directv saying do not install for so & so, that the account has been flagged as fraudulent. The best bet is just to switch providers and do that every 2 to 3 yrs. No implications or complications by doing that. Besides you can at least ride out the new customer promos every other year.

Except, it sounds like they don't want to change providers !

I completely can understand that. On the other hand in the eye of the providers you are only considered a new customer 1 time & trust me they are checking & double checking. You can however return as a former customer under the right circumstances and receive the new customer promos. There is a HIGH probability that the op's wife will tie him back to the existing account even though it is not in her name, doesn't matter if you change the address or cc info.

They did away with the "Once a sub Always a Sub" awhile back, few years anyways, they even had a promotion about it going, telling people they could get the New sub stuff. This was going on before CC closed.

StoneCold could actually answer the question much better.

TONS can be said for users simply doing the right thing. IF you are unhappy simply change services. If you aren't, stay and pay for what you get as expected. If your bill is too high; cut back service or tighten your belt elsewhere. Why try to cheat the system? Just be more financially self-responsible.

Directv & Dish change things daily. Things ain't what they used to be. I say to the op go for it, but, remember if it goes south that you have been forewarned.

Go for it....I've been reading many people are going through with this on other forums to get the Sunday Ticket deal, the $180 Costco cash card, and the $100 Refer a Friend credit. Haven't seen anyone having problems. I've seen some cancel and sign up online the same day using the wife's info (Name, SS#, Cell Phone, etc).

She could prolly sign up using her maiden name and use a cell phone number (or other number not used on the account)--maybe even establish apartment #1 to your address. Change enough things and you'll be fine :)

Charper1, I assume this is a hpothical statement or you are just talking out of your arse. Like I said, it was a hypothetical question, but thanks anyway for a morals lesson and stop being so sensitive. I never said I wanted to cheat the system, I'm just willing to take advantage of an opportunity if it presents itself....and if not oh well, I'm content with what I have now.

To everyone else, thanks for the replies. I was curious to process and if it was/is possible.

*disclaimer: the original above question was strictly hypothetical. :)

Only hypothetical; then why ask if there is no intent. I am not being over sensitive, just stating my point of view on it. Stop being so defensive. LOL America is too loaded with cheats and that is one main problem with the US today. Not saying YOU are one; just stating my opinion on that topic.

It will get flaged as fraud. I see it atleast once a week. The will catch it.

I used to see the opposite... I've even seen someone misspell their street to trip up the system, only to tell the correct agrees to the installer when he calls looking for the place. They simply tell the installer that the sale person messed up and they already called to fix it. No one ever asked questions. Install ASAP, sometimes you can even get next day if you order before noon. Pay your bill though--they WILL find unpaid bills and transfer the balance, but if the closed account is settled fine, no one will say anything.

LOL - your door was open and a saw loose cash laying on the table so I took it. But no one will say anything your neighbors don't care what happens to your place. I left a fake note with a bogus name to trip you & the police up. I will put on a disguise and it will be OK and they won't catch me. LOL

I would agree America and other places are full of cheats, but tell me how if I am out of contract and I want some services only offered to a new subscriber that having my wife agree to a new two year contract to get these services is cheating?

What say you about greedy corporations with annualized profits of 2.7 billion? Do they fairly compensate their employees, or do they ship jobs overseas to contracted call centers and sub out jobs to the lowest bidder? Would D* find a way to save money manufacturing it's boxes by using labor in countries with little to no labor laws at a cost to US jobs? In a heartbeat. The OP doesn't want to steal, just work the system, much like d* does every day.

Its in their rules NOT to allow it at the same address from the same family. So lying or fraudulently skirting one's name, relatives, phone, etc is cheating. Easy

All legal; you may not like it, but it is legal. And frankly a totally different scenario. You would simply be trying to rationalize. Just call and cancel ALL your service to show them.

You could move to a socialist or communist country and try that on for size. But like I said don't be so defensive you guys.

I also follow all that ultra-liberal, anti-capitalism, anti-corporation, anti-profit rant with the same YAWN status. Pack those bags and try the other side.

I guess you drive the speed limit every where then, and use your blinkers all the time too. How about this then, how long do I need to wait before I can be considered a new customer again? I wouldn't want to cheat anyone out of a free dvr or something.
