Can I hook a H10 to a SWM hookup?

Here is what I'm trying to do. Have an old H10 receiver that I really want to use just for the OTA tuner. Now I need a connection from the satellite for it to work. It wont be activated so I'll just have the locals and 200 & 201 in there (they are free)

Will it work and read just 101? Or does the SWM setup do something weird with 101 so it wont work?

You have a SWM-8, right? It ought to be able to see 101 just fine if it's connected to a Legacy port on the SWM module.

There is no legacy port on the splitter, only the multiswitch, IIRC. Ice, why not hook it up and find out if it works. The H10 may get what it needs to work through the splitter, who knows?

Give it a try Ice and let us know, if by chance it doesn't work and something gets screwed up, give me a shout, I got one sitting on the shelf you can have.
Personally, I think it should work fine.

no go :(

hooked it up and it registered only a couple of TP's...odds

wont download guide...stuck on "finding satellite"......oh well guess I gotta use a converter box on that TV

Sorry guy, I probably tried that many years ago, once mine was turned off, but forgot the results.
Stuck on finding Sats ?
You did have it hooked up to the Sat signal didn't you ?
If so, it should have found at the very least, the 101 sat.

So you have a SWM LNB setup with the splitter downstream? Your old receiver just won't work; it just doesn't speak the necessary protocols to request satellites/polarizations from the LNB. Sorry.

yep. SWM 3 down to the power pack then the 8 way splitter

bummer....oh well. Like I say I'll have to use a converter box on that TV instead

Depending on what you want to put into this project, you could set up a second dish, non SWM and give it a try.

If I still lived in MN I sure wouldn't be up on the roof this winter putting up another dish. Better just to check Goodwill for a $5 ATSC converter box.

For all the effort and time needed to put a second dish up, I'd just pony up for a replacement receiver
But I only need OTA on this TV (its in the basement) and I dont want to pay another 100 bucks + 5 a month for a location that is used a couple times a week maybe. Its one of the old "HDTV Ready" units so there is no digital tuner in it and I figured might as well use an old D* receiver to get the local stations.

yeah no duh! When they came to install the new dish this past Tuesday I had cleared the snow and ice off the roof so they could put the dish up. (the tech only needed to go up about 8 feet to put it on the edge of the roof)....I already have a couple converter boxes here so I'll just use one of them.

Oh man!! I need more customers like you. You would be surprised how many people seem to think we can levitate above the snow covered rooftops and simultaneously materialize a completely assembled KaKu on their roof.

I know webby.
I had everything all ready and the tech was very grateful for that. All he had to do was take down the 18" dish I had, mount the new dish right by the existing one, aim the dish and get in the house (it was like -4 that morning). He already had assembled the dish and roughed it before he arrived so it took him like 3 minutes to aim and peak the dish. Already ran the new cable for the new receiver so it didnt take him like 4 hours to clean off the roof (only spot to put it), install the dish, then run a new cable through my house (which is a pain to do since it has to go through the garage to get to the bedrooms). Hooked up the SWM, reran sat setup on R22's, installed new H23 and activated.

total time was an hour :)

I think there will be a compatibility problem with the H 10 & the SWM. + The tuner in the H 10 is not the ATSC digital tuner (pretty sure). You could rig a round dish to get the 101....the locals are on Directv subscription $$$. I think you will still need the digital tuner.

Joe the H10 does have a ASTC tuner in it. I've used it before for OTA. Setup is the same as a AM21...set by zip code

Hmmmmmmmm!

If so the round dish will get you in. It has been awhile...I thought the H 10 was passing an analog signal for the locals....if this works I am going to take a look at old receivers in the garage. I am considering a similar project.

Report success,

Joe

Joe it will work. The issue is the only options I can use for sat setup are 1 LNB (18"), 2 LNB (the old Phase II that didnt have 110), 3 LNB in the menu so thats why it wouldnt work with a SWM. I did at one time have it set up when I had a 18" dish setup. The only channels I got were the "freebie" channels...200, 201, 600 (the channel that shows the sports schedules and the channel list) and my locals.

If I have some time today I'll set it up temporarily and take pics to show it

Silly question about 1080p Directv signal

HR21 Fried HDMI port and Tuner 2, can I just upgrade it?
