Cablevision puts Voom back in business Mar. 8 2005 -- 3:31:08 PM EST
by KEN SCHACHTER
BETHPAGE - In an indication that Cablevision Systems Chairman Charles Dolan has won at least a temporary reprieve for the company's satellite TV service, the Voom Web site was back in service Tuesday and customer service representatives were taking telephone orders.
On Monday, Dolan went before a reconstituted Cablevision board to make his case that Voom assets should be sold to his group, which includes a son, Thomas Dolan. The company, which had earlier shut down Voom's Web site, made no announcement after the board meeting about disposition of the Voom assets.
Cablevision earlier agreed to sell Voom's satellite to EchoStar Communications, the operator of Dish Network, for $200 million.
Charles Dolan, who controls Cablevision through ownership of super-voting stock, earlier this month replaced three directors who had voted to close Voom. Opposing Charles Dolan's continued efforts to revive Voom is his son James Dolan, chief executive of Cablevision.
