I am totally happy with my Sony Bravia its an LCD and its nice, bought it last year, but I want to move on to a bigger TV.

After reading some of those reviews about the Samsung TV's I am little scared, I don't want to dish 2000.00 and then be stuck with a TV that is broken, I mean I can return it and all but thats another hassle.

I am looking into a 50-62" DLP tv.
I am willing to spend 2000.00$
I am looking into a good TV (no unknown brands please) don't trust them at all.
Good quality picture, true 1080P TV.
2-3 HDMI slots, 1 for my 360, 1 for my PS3, and 1 for my future HD-DVD player, 2 component slots at least (1 for DirecTV when I get it, and 1 for Cable TV)

I would appreciate some help here, since you guys are gamers like me and you know your stuff about TV's better than I do.

I have Mits 65" DLP and Sony 50" SXRD.
Both are great for HD, Sony is better for SD.

Don't be scared of Samsung - it's a great product. I've got the T5076S which is the same as the 61" model you're looking at, only smaller, and I love it - I've had it since July with no problems.

Keep in mind that you're looking at two different kinds of TV's there. The 50" model you referenced uses an LED engine vs. the normal "bulb" setup for the 61". The LED is still relatively new but I've heard good things about it. Not sure there would be a noticeable difference to the naked eye, but it should last longer than the bulb, from what I've heard. Who knows how much it will cost to replace vs. the bulb when it does go out, though...

Personally, I would go with the smaller set unless you have a huge room you'll be using it in. I know it's tempting to go bigger, but I actually just down-sized from a 55" set and I still sometimes think this one is too big. My couch is about 9'-10' from the TV - remember that if the viewing distance is too small it makes the PQ look worse...

You might also consider going in for a good reciever to switch all your feeds so you can go with HDMI all around...

Well the thing about the site, 50" would be great for my room, but I hear having a TV around 60"+ would give me advantage when I am using 1080p.
I like the Sony products (so far my 1 year old Sony LCD bravia HDTV been great but time to get a bigger TV) I heard great reviews about LED, I hear you don't get rainbow effect with the LED feature on it, what I am mainly concerned about is picture quality.
Mitsubishi's I hear are good TV's but for some reason I just don't the design.
Basically what it comes down to is the sony SXRD models and Samsungs DLP.
About the receiver, I want to go for the DirecTV newest HR21 DVR receiver.
Keep in my I don't want to spend over 2k on a DLP TV as of now.
But like you said 50-55" TV is fine too, I was concerned if I didn't have a TV around 60" I would not be able to see the difference on using 1080p resolution.

You can absolutely tell a difference between 1080p and anything else at 50". Generally speaking, smaller screens always look better in any situation. The only reason to go bigger is if you have a really big room and are going to be viewing from far away and/or you have lots of parties where people are scattered all over the area...

I was actually talking about a surround sound receiver that would take all of your HDMI/Component inputs in and send them to the TV in one HDMI connection. You could at least combine a few of them that way so that you don't have to worry so much about how many inputs the TV has.

I've heard good things about the Sony sets but can't really comment, as I've never had one or even seen one outside of a BB or CC.

My brother in law has one of the Sonys. Great tv, i think he would be pleased.
I love the Samsung sets. Have one myself in my living room

So far my living room is medium size (not really big). But you are right 60+ inch might be way too big and probably not going to be happy, it be nice to get one of those TV's at home and test them all out, but yeha I measured 60" in my living room for the TV and it seems like its a bit big, and the TV view distance is about 10-15ft away from the TV so thats not soo huge, and people in my living room when they watch tv aren't scattered around as much, more like 2 couches (6 people) would be great, and I think 50" would do the job, well at least now I know what size I should go for my living room, now I need to see which TV is going to be the best 1080p TV about 2k.
Question, should I wait until Black Friday to buy a TV? I usually buy my TV's from Costco, they been great in my town, return policy is 90 days, some places like CC or BB usually they charge a fee to return and their return policy for CC is only 14 days.
I've checked Costco, they got new models out, but I am hesitating right now, because Black Friday is not too far away, and I really want to save some money if there are some killer deals.

I don't think a 60"+ at 10-15ft is too big. I have a 57" at 12-13ft now and it's great. I'd look at a 60", if the price is in your range.

I had a samsung 32 inch lcd and will never go back to the brand, it kicked out some ungodly amounts of heat enough so that it raised the temp in my living room and dining room 12 degrea's over the rest of the house.

I have a vizio 32 inch lcd 1080i set and love it for all the features it has that the expensive name brands have at a much cheaper price. Give them a look and you might be surprised at what you get for your buck specialy in the size range your looking into.

When I was looking, Costco didn't have the model I wanted, so it wasn't an option.

CC was significantly cheaper than BB at that time (like $300), but I just kept checking every Sunday - that's when they typically update their prices - until they had a sale. It was running $2000 and they typically had a discount between $100 and $200. Then, one week they offered a $400 discount and I jumped on it. It was over two months before it was that price again....

So, that doesn't really answer your question about waiting until Thanksgiving weekend, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you figure out which one you want, just keep an eye on all the retailers - if they suddenly drop the price a bunch, go for it. If you really do your homework and get a good deal, odds are it's not going to be that much different than what you would get later, even on Black Friday...

What is it exactly? If it's 10', you'd probably be happier with the PQ on a 50" set. If it's closer to 15', you'd be fine with the 60" set. Of course, you always want to get the biggest one that will still look good, right?

I didn't even think about Vizio, but the sets the OP mentioned were both DLP's.... if that's what he wants, Vizio is out of the question.

I'm 11 feet from a 106" @720p and it's great. The 360 and PS3 games look fantastic as does HD TV.

After doing some further research, it seems like most agree that the optimum viewing distance for an HDTV displaying an HD signal is between 2 and 4 times the screen width (which would be less than the diagonal measurements used to sell the TV).

That being the case, you're probably ok with either 50" or 60" at a 10' viewing distance. Keep in mind that the viewing distance should be farther away for SD programming... but who really cares about that anymore?

106" at 11' is too close by either standard... but to each his own.

Ok great, my local Costco has some decent TV's that I like and they have TV's like the Sony SXRD DLP going for about 1200-1500$ I believe thats around 50-55" TV. Great deal I am checking the price for now weekly.
