I was woken up this morning at 4am by a emergency broadcast test. Is this really necessary for Brighthouse to schedule these tests at 4am? This isn't the first time either. I am about to call and complain.

It just started happening last month. The county doesn't test the tornado sirens at 4am so I'm not quite sure where Brighthouse would get this bonehead idea. I filled out their online complaint form. I'll see what they reply with.
If the county would test the sirens at 4 AM it would wake everyone up. Brighthouse only bothers those with TVs on, and at 4AM is probably the time with the fewest TV's in use, therfore less impact on their customers.
Its one of those things that no matter when you do it, people will complain, and trying to find the time that gets the fewest complaints is the goal.

I have been using the sleep feature on the cable box, not the tv lately. But you need to navigate through about 4 different screens to get to it. They couldn't assign one of the useless buttons on the remote to this? Another thing is the wake timer. It needs to be set manually every night. They couldn't have this recurring? I mean we are talking rocket science here, right?
As everyone here knows, I am one of the quickest to point out BHNs boneheadness when it shows itself. In this case though, I have to defend them. It does appear that they have tried to pick a time to do the test when it would impact the fewest people.
Clearly, there no single minute of the day that would affect zero people. 4AM seems reasonable to me. Now, you might could argue that doing it at 12 noon would be a proper choice as well. It would affect many people, but the vast majority would be awake. But there are no doubt a few night workers who would be asleep and if they had their TV on as did Slider, then they would be complaining.

HAHAHAHA!!! This is probablly one of the dumbest threads I've ever seen. I mean come on??? Solution: Go buy a Harmony remote program it and wa la, with a push of one button the sleep timer will do it for you or for .99 go buy a night light if your afraid of the dark.:river:river:river:river:river:river

BHN has a window between 2AM and 4AM where they do all maintenance that will affect a large area of customers. This time frame has been deemed as the "Least impact on customers" So if your up during those times I apologize but often you will get to see when BHN is playing with the toys..

I wish they would run one of these tests the next time my mother-in-law invades my living room and falls asleep with the TV on (like she does every night without fail!). This would jolt her pretty good and it is probably on EVERY channel like XM does, right?
I entertain myself by switching the television from Lifetime to Skinimax and hiding the remote while she slumbers, but this would be much more fun.
