Just purchased a Coolsat Pro 4000...39" dish with single LNB...and a Digiwave motor. Just finished installing it. Now the Lat where I live which is in Dundas Ontario is 43.23 N and the Latitude is -79.85 E. I offset true south 10degrees to the west...got my zero point. I then positioned the motor inclination acording to my positionwhich was 43 degrees. Now it asked me to set the Dish declination angle which was 30- 6=23 I then set the dish declination at 23 degrees. Did a reset done.. turned the reciever on..nada.. I have a sat finder hooked up..moved the dish back and forth...no sats Went thru my menu guide ..did a bunch of searches..nada. What am I doing wrong...why can't I find any sats. Any help would be greatly appreciatted.

Hello and Welcome to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum :wave

I would double check your Lat. and Long. and set them as below.

I would also dump the motor for now and find and store your true south satellite first then add the motor, maybe you have done this.

Satellite Finder is (c) Copyright 2004, P. Lutus

You will need to enter a LIVE channel before you will be able to find any satellite, you are looking for signal quality only, signal strength means nothing.

http://www.lyngsat.com/amc5.html

http://www.dmsiusa.com/charts.htm

does this mean that I have to go out to the satellite and rotate the dish back and forth..up and down manually till I find a satellite with my sat finder in-line with the LNB. Also what is the true south satellite? Obviously its probably my elevation setup...there I don't know what the freak is going on :)

If I'm to find a satelite manually....what would be my south satellite?

thanks drhydro....soo I'm up there moving it up, down, left, right..and I'm not getting any signal meter on my Level or Quality for my coolsat pro 4000 and I'm on AMC 5...when I switch to Nimiq2 I get an 85% level and a 2 to 5% Quality.. Man am I ever stuck

Maybe you don't have the LNB power on? You can check if it the power is on through your receivers menu.

The signal level you are seeing on Nimiq2 doesn't mean anthing at all you can poin the dish at the ground and get signal, the quality it what your looking for.

When you move the dish do it ever so slowly and when you make a sweep at one elevation and don't find anything loosen the bolt and bump the dish back a little and sweep again.

Also be sure that your LNB LO is correct, it is probably 10750. This again will be in the receivers setup menu. You can usually find the LNB's LO from a sticker on the side of it or on the box it came in.

I hope this helps,

Wholeshoe

I don't know exactly my LNB's LO...however it is set to 10.750...LNB Power is on...I had to change the LNB freq. to 10.750 then bam! my level came up then my quality started to dance between 0 and 7%... Went outside to start playing with the dish and left the wife inside to look at the quality...in the end...nada... This is AMC5 I'm trying to get...it's right off my zero south... but I even went further into panning...nada...could it be that it's overcast right now...with BEV i've never had an overcast problem.

KU signals are MUCH weaker......................so thats what wifes are for : )

..and sometimes when your really good...they'll get a beer from the fridge.... So from what your saying ...on an overcast day there is no reception?

Not true. Overcast skies and rain CAN reduce the signal. Heavy rain creates rainfade... but something's amiss, I think, if you can't get over 7% Quality on a 39" dish and a decent lnb. Heck, Iceberg did some fun experiments and got over 30% Quality off an 18" DTV dish on some of the stronger Ku transponders.

as for now I've given up....gonna put the ladder away....try again tomorrow...and the first thing I'm gonna do is check the LNB freq. on the LNB itself...Thanks guys...talk to ya tomorrow :)

Day two...and back at it

First and foremost...Happy Fathers day to all.
Quick question...my Latitude where I live is 43.23 degrees.....I have a digiwave motor....do I adjust that to the Latitude scale or the Elevation scale....there's one on each side...? I also spoke with my dealer that the LNB is a universal type LNB whick is 10.7 - 12.7 ion the linear KU band.
Oh well...back to panning

Alright ...I'm out there now with my sat finder and panning. My sat finder is set to 5...I'm moving the dish around then it goes to 7 max.. I then go inside to tv..I'm in the menu to dish setting...scan all the dishes and I notice no difference...my quality is still 0 to 5% ?????

man......I went out there...panned...got a reading on my sat finder....went inside....every sat had no quality. Panned again...nothing. I am completely and utturly fustrated...the wife is always to blame!!

Not too familiar with that motor, but it seems you would put the lat. side to your lat.

If it is a universal LNBF make sure your L.O. is set to..

09750-10600

Try a blind scan if you feel you are close to a satellite.

You would set your motor to latitude 43.2 (which is the latitude of your geographic location), on the latitude side of the scale.

Keep in mind you also have to set the elevation of your dish even while it is on the motor, this is done on your true south satellite. You can find some help on motor installations here, Sadoun is one of this site's sponsors :)

http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/HH-mount-installation.htm

Your dish elevation (if you have an SG-2100) will be 30 minus your declination angle which you can calculate from here:

http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/DECLINATION-ANGLE-TABLE.htm

Simply find your latitude (43.2) and, checking the chart, you should subtract about 6.6 degrees from 30. This gives your dish an elevation of 23.4.

So you set your motor (from the latitude scale) at 43.2 and your dish elevation at 23.4.

thanks tron... my Digipower motor is also 30 - the declination angle..which brings me to 23. And I'm bang on my true south and motor angle....I even panned different motor angles...still with no luck.... Here's a funny thing...just checked the Hamilon yellow pages for a aFTA dealer...slim to none.. You guys are my only hope.
