Well, I woke from an afternoon nap, and decided to see if I had the hardware to mount an lnb to my spare Primestar. I did. So, as we speak, my extra dish is on the patio, with the bucket mount scanning something. I had 7 tp's listed when I came in to write this. Will see where I am at soon!

OK, I took a few tp#'s, looked at lyngsat, and I actually was able to figure out where I am pointed! I was aiming for G10, and I am at 121w! WOW! Lucky! I am close! Must be pure luck!

And I remember the thread when you were trying to find G10R on your first FTA setup. ;)

You mean the 2 week long one? I am going to compare the signal strength of the 80cm vs the Primestar on G10. Then I will make a perm. pole mount somewhere and aim at G10 for the Primestar. I now have 2 receivers, so it is so much easier to have a receiver out with me now. Before, I ran a long coax out to my tv, but had to go inside to use the remote on the receiver. This saves me time now :) I am thinking I had better not sell the fortec. Might be nice to have for playing around :)

OK, after fine tuning G10 for awhile, I have come to the conclusion that the max signal I can get on G10 using a Primestar dish is the same as I can get on the 80cm. On the tp 11720, I tweaked the dish to 33-40% on my Fortec receiver. Connected to the 80cm dish, I get the same signal, sometimes going as high as 46% on 11720. So, I am going to leave my 80cm pointed to G10/IA7 and point the extra Primestar somewhere else :)

Yeah, I'd keep that extra receiver myself.. You never know.. I thought it was kinda funny you had it up for sale already..

I just tweaked the lnb a bit, and on 11720 I can get it to go to a solid 46%. On my 80cm, it goes goes from 40-46% and sometimes 33-40% on cloudy days. On the Primestar, the strong tps are still at 80% as they are on the 80cm. So, I still don't think there is any increase on the Primestar vs the 80cm. So, off to point somewhere else :)

well, after I get my extra dish in place, I won't have a need for it. I tried to talk my father in law into having me set it up for him, but he is not intersted.

Ok, I am still playing as i am grilling out some steak, so need to occupy some time.... I now am on AMC-4. Gonna nudge and go for AMC-1 next. FUN!

Got a universal?

I'm thinking that if my wife ever lets me use my Primestar (it's too ugly, yadda, yadda, yadda) I'm going to put the universal mount on it that I bought before I bought my invacom and use that solely to pick up cubavision, or whatever other birds in the future end up using that extra channel that the universal can pick up that a standard cannot.

I like the looks of the Primestar. The extra one I have will need to be painted. I have my eye on one down the street, and I need to go ask them about it :)

I found 30 some tv and 4 radio on AMC-1. One is a scrambled awards show. Not sure what is on tongiht, but audio was good, scrambled pic. Several Pentagon Channels. So I had some fun, picked up 4 or so satellites tongiht, and re-affirmed that i might just have a small clue what to do :)

I don't know what it is about my area, but I can't seem to find ANY Primestar/DirecPC/Hughesnet dishes. Only 18" pizza dishes. Don't know what the deal is. There's quite a few C-Band dishes from the 80s (you can tell because of the rust, etc) but none of the above. Yet, so many in my area have D*/E* because the cable company is so bad.

I have only seen 2 Primestars in my neighborhood. I was in a junk pile, and I went the next day to ask and it was gone :-( The other is still behind someones house. They are never home. I am going to put a letter and mail them one this week. The 2 Primestars I have, I bought for $30 for the pair from a local Directv shop. I figure I will check back every few months :) Might try one of those types of places. I bet they encounter them :)

I used to see them all over oklahoma and knew where 4 were for sure at different old family properties. Someone took the lnb arm off of the one I was keeping at the lake house getting ready to use and now I can't find one anywhere. It's like a tornado came in a took them all away.
I was fortunate to get an 8 foot BUD from an old neighbor at my grandparents old house. It was identical to ours and installed at the same time by the same guy, not so lucky for the one that was on our old property, it is a twisted pile of junk down behind the barn. The new owners son used the tractor to rip and drag it out.
