DVD feels first sting of slipping sales - USATODAY.com

Kinna makes that 190K claim from Paramount on 1st week sales of Transformers flat out lie.

Paramount probably sold 190k out of its warehouse to stores. Stores ordered a bunch to have inventory for the quarter. I agree that 190k to consumers in the first week is probably not true.

So the sales figure for "300" is BD only, not both? Wonder why they wouldn't have added HD DVD to that like they did for other dual format release titles in this list?

'Spider-Man 3' came out swinging in its first six days in stores, setting a new opening-week record for Sony with over 130,000 Blu-ray units sold, according to studio estimates.

I'm sorry - what were you saying about Transformers?

239,100 - 190,000 = 49,100

It is very possible that they sold 190K the first week of the release and 49,100 thereafter. I think a majority of people buy their DVD/HD-DVD/Bluray discs on the first week they are released, as they usually launch with a sale price. I would hardly consider that a flat out lie. I buy most of my media the week it comes out. Standard DVDs are often $16.99 the release week and then jump to $19.99 for a while thereafter. $29.99 and $34.99 high def media often launches with a $24.99 price, so why not save yourself some money and buy it during launch week?

This is entirely possible.
