PITTSBURGH -- The University of Pittsburgh plans to shut down Bigelow Boulevard between Fifth and Forbes avenues after 9 p.m. Sunday, to give students a place to celebrate if the Steelers win Super Bowl XL against the Seattle Seahawks.

The plan came after things got a little wild in parts of Oakland after the Steelers took the AFC title.

"There was a couch burning right in front of our house," said student Ashley Lee. "The streets were just filled. You couldn't move. A car couldn't get through the streets of Oakland."

Students living on Semple Street with couches on their porches got a letter from building inspectors warning them to get rid of furniture because it could be "an attractive nuisance to those who would mar our expected victory celebration."

"I think there'll probably be a lot of people out yelling and screaming and being crazy, but I think it's all more in good fun than being destructive," said student Erin McFarling.

After seeing rowdy South Side crowds after the AFC win, some Carson Street businesses said they won't be open Sunday night.

"That's for everybody to go home, enjoy the game, relax, the staff and everybody, so we don't have worry, because the city's going to go crazy when we win," said Fat Head's owner Michelle Benigni.

Courts are calling in extra staff, bail agents and judges to deal with any arrests.

"We're currently making arrangements to add an additional magisterial district judge to hear arraignments," said Court Administrator Raymond Billotte. "We're also going to put an additional magisterial district judge on call in the event the numbers warrant."

Pittsburgh police are continuing to prepare their game plan for Sunday -- a plan that includes massive road closings.

The overall intent of the closings is to create core areas where no vehicles will be allowed.

Restrictions are set to begin by 9 p.m.
