While going through some old boxes, I found this advertisement for the Playboy channel, talking about scrambling and how to continue to receive Playboy.
The advertisement was in a box that got damp at one point, that's the reason for the 'stained' look :)

I remember watching Playboy on F4-24 before they scrambled. I think they went VC-II in 88. Used to subscribe through Showtime Satellite Networks.

interesting...wasnt Playboy on a shared transponder with a religious channel at one time?

So at 5:59 you could hear the preacher say "oh god" and at 6:01 you could hear the porn star scream "oh god" :D:D

Here's some other Gems

1) the VC2+ Upgrade Notice

2) NPS 1992 ( look at those ala carte prices)

3) Showtime Satellite Networks

I remember when Playboy shared a transponder (G5-2) with Gary Cubetta and Satellite City TV and his famous "Super Ice Lnbs and King Viper Receivers"

Actually Playboy was MUCh tamer back ten... Strictly cheesecake stuff with none of the X rated fare at that time.....

In the early 90's they started putting some single X rated movies into rotation, but only at 11pm and later. I remember Arsenio Hall having the lady censor on as a guest who used to review the films and make cuts to clean it up to get the X rating and keep out of trouble in municipalities that were strict about such things in several of the red states.

Jerry Falwell and company supposedly got them to agree to remove the XXX rated programming after some moral crusade he instituted against the company. Of course, he probably failed to realize that they didn't actually show any XXX material, only X rated.... so things stayed unchanged. You can't make this stuff up.

I do, it wasn't Playboy though if I remeber it correctly. I thought it was on one of the T sats on the old GI out at the farm ..... :D
