Here is the actual list of movies expiring. The media has made a big deal out of this. It was one of the big stories on CNN when I was getting ready for work this morning. They sensationalized it to make it sound like all Warner, Universal, and MGM titles would be removed from Netflix as of today and moved over to the new Warner streaming service. According to this article from the Verge this isn't' the case. Warner has already stated that their new service will only have Warner titles and even most of the Warner titles being removed from Netflix won't be on their service.

When I look at the actual list I have never even heard of most of the movies and I don't think any of them were in my queue. Most of these titles appear to be little known, old movies. This will have zero effect on me.

Kinda sucks.... online streaming is really taking off so I wouldnt be surprised if each studio wants to get into the game and exclusively stream their own titles.

All joking aside, It always sucks to lose content you had before. However, this isn't as bad as the media tried to make it sound. The way CNN phrased it this morning it sounded like all Warner, Universal, and MGM content was gone. They actually used the headline Netflixageddon.
They said that the movies from those companies would be pulled for Warner's new service. That would be a huge chunk of Netflix's library. Turns out that this is just a small number of titles from those companies and they aren't moving to Warner's service. Wrong on both counts CNN.

Maybe but It doesn't sound like the are done with Epix, just certain Epix content. In that same article it mentions that they just added The Hunger Games from Epix.

that link does not say that, it says that some of the movies that are expiring today are because they are no longer on Epix.
This is what it says-The vast majority of the titles that expire on Wednesday are older features that were aggregated by Epix
Netflix and Epix have 3 more years to go on their current deal.
Someone wake me up when Netflix' streaming library offers everything in their DVR library. Until then, their streaming service is just as crappy as it was a years ago when they decided to charge separately for Streaming and DVD rentals. If its available on DVR when I want to stream it...and that includes ALL new releases.
That's a little unrealistic at $8 a month when most new releases are $5 to $6 a piece from other sources. Netflix streaming is more like a premium network than anything else. They offer a pretty wide selection of shows and movies uncut but you can't expect every movie ever released on disk for $8 a month instantly available through streaming.

The website listed with the titles being retired is hard to load and slow, but I am seeing titles I have watched in the last few months, as well as some I wanted to watch and haven't gotten around to yet. The Ken Burns stuff comes to mind.
I don't have an issue with stuff being rotated in and out. I am concerned if the catalog titles all go away and get replaced only with new stuff. My tastes are toward a mixed set, and frankly there is not enough new material with the quality to make me happy.

If this is related to Epix losing the license and therefore Netflix losing the sub-license, it might be possible to delay the loss of some of these movies by downloading them through Epix on Demand on the Dish receivers. Depending on how it's set up, you might get 30 days to watch before it is removed from the DVR. I'm not positive it will work (the system might be smart enough to provie a shorter on demand rental period), but if someone is desperate to get a few more movies in that they can't see before time is up, it can't hurt to try.
