If I have found this tutorial sooner, I would have saved a lot of frustration and time to me and to you guys that helped me in answering to my questions in this forum (thank you again a million).
In my opinion this basic tutorial is very clear, concise and in detail to make a novice understand a bit what it is all about.

The link is http://www.channelplus.com/support_an.html and under "Current Products" open the first PDF file "How do I watch DSS in the bedroom?"

or http://www.channelplus.com/pdf/an/CompleteDSS.pdf

Also very informative but a bit more technical and not structured like the one above is:

http://www.hometech.com/learn/
http://www.hometech.com/learn/dss.html
http://www.hometech.com/learn/video.html
http://www.hometech.com/learn/video1.html
(some other sections are under construction)

Hope this it will help new comers to this fascinating field. Thank you.

How do I add a new DirecTV receiver?

After reading the threads I realize that my question is rudimentary, but it's important to me. I hope you can help.

I have an oval dish. I can go up to and describe it if necessary, but let's start with the fact that three cables come off the roof to a switch that has three connectors on one side (for the cables from the DirecTV dish), and three cables on the other (one each for my TVs with DirectTV). The switch looks like this:

== | | ==
== | | ==
== | | ==

I have a cable coming from a third story bedroom that hangs near the switch and I would like to use this to get a signal to the bedroom. I'm stumped, though, because there is nowhere on the switch to screw in the cable (I assume it would go on the side where the other cables that feed my boxes connect). The cable is RG6.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty good with my hands so I can install a switch if need be, and installing the box is staightforward - I've done it before. So, all I need to know is what to do with the 3x3 box to screw in a fourth cable. I don't care if the feed is interrupted and its channel changes when another DirecTV box in the house does.

If you have advice on this, please be specific about the equipment I'll need so I can order it with accuracy.

Thanks so much for your help!

New Dish?

Most people would tell you to go and buy a new $100 switch. Is there a BestBuy near you? If so they have A new Tripple LNB dish for only 59.99. It has a built in multiswitch for 4 t.v's. Thats what i did and it worked fine.

You could also go to a swapmeet and get a single LNB dish and pay like 10 bucks for it and use it alone for a sperate reciver..

Hope this helps :)
