Hi, I'm new here.
So, I'm an American stuck up in Canada for work-related reasons, and I've been going crazy having to watch the government-funded propoganda they call television here, while not having access to half of my favorite shows (where the other half are constantly getting pre-empted for hockey games or rescheduled without notice).
Anyway, I've decided that paying for an American sat TV provider like DirectTV or Dish Network is probably the best option for me, and more legit and less hassle than downloading episodes off the Internet. Plus, I even kinda miss the American commericals (you would too if you saw how cheesy the Canadian ones were).
Now, the thing is that I only need this service for about 3 months. I was going to go with DirectTV, but then I read all these horror stories about cancellation fees and it sounds like you have to make at least a 2 year commitment with them (true or not true?)
I noticed that Dish Network has a prepaid option, where you buy the equipment and you get these "pay as you go" cards. Do you think that would be the best option for me, or is there anything else for me to consider? Dish is less ideal than Direct because I believe you have to buy one of their more expensive packages just to get FX (which is one of the main channels I'd want to get, along with TNT, SciFi, A&E, USA Network, Cartoon Network, etc.). Also, Direct would give me more HD programming options (although I have a smaller screen so I don't know how much I really care about HD).
Another thing is that I'd like to get local networks like NBC, but I don't think the prepaid option will give that to me. Any suggestions?
