Hello all,

Can anyone tell me the best way to add a second address to my account?

I'm looking for the least expensive way to get service in my Grand Mother's home, but ideally, on my account.

So far, I think my only legit real solution is to get her a new account, and put my billing on it.

I've got a 622 and 500 in storage, If that helps save money.

What's the cheapest way?

No. Two addresses, two accounts. Don't even try to account stack.

Owning your equipment does not really save money anymore, but you might get something in a sale of the equipment.

HOWEVER
, there is another option. You might set her up with a Slingbox and tie her in to one of your boxes, running at your home. This assumes both you and she have broadband, and you're willing to make some upfront investment. Others more knowledgeable about Sling might chime in.

I'm only interested in legit options, so stacking is not an option to consider.

Unfortunately, sling will not be an option either ... she does not have broadband.

I tried asking support via a 'dish chat' ... but they just said:
"If you want DISH Network service in two homes because you live in both houses throughout the year then please call our Customer Care (1-800-894-9131) and speak with our Fact Act Team. (Fact Act-- Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act) "

I'm guessing that's a department designed to help prevent misuse of accounts, so I don't think I'll even bother calling.

So far it still sounds like a second account.

The cheapest I've seen is 25 a month. Wouldn't mind finding something a touch cheaper if possible.

What can I get for a used 622? Its been in the closet for about 6 months or more.

Switched first to a 722, then to a 722k ... some time back.

tried going to the dish store, but it has a php config problem.

Anyways, any trust worthy deals out there?

Just call Dish and find out. Explain what you would like to do, who it's for, etc. We try to help wherever possible, but we can't do the deals for you. So put on your charming shoes.

if i were normal, i would have already called. :)

but, i'm not ... can't stand phones ... especially when there is fear of half hour waits, and difficult accents waiting on the other end.

sure are a lot of assumptions there...
Had to call a week ago this past thursday because my DVR went out. Nice lady from Texas (but to be fair, she did have one of those Texas accents) and then called to activate my new receiver they sent on this past Wednesday, and got a nice lady from Pennsylvania (but to be fair, she did have one of those eastern U.S. accents). Total time on the phone from ring to hang up for both calls was less than 23 minutes to RA a receiver and activate a new one. All done from and to the U.S. of A.

Dish support is a lot better now. Seems they moved support back to the US.

Say what

What we have accents in TX. Never you just talk funny! :D

We don't have Texas accents because there just aren't any native Texans left we're all damn yankees that have moved here

For your Grandmother give her your old receiver if you own it and set her up for the "Welcome Pack" with locals only $15/mo. plus installation. With religious/shopping and PI channels she should be around 60 channels plus Free Views

if you installed a dish at her place and hooked up one of your receivers, you could then subscribe her to the welcome pack wit locals.. not a ton of channels, but 9.99 plus 5 for locals, 15 + tax basically and she would have something to watch, and not be breaking any rules. it is important to note that the welcome pack doesnt qualify for any promotions, so you would have to use your own equipment, and install yourself for this to be a viable option..

still sounds good.

are there any restrictions?

I'm not sure, but I think she had dish at one point in the past, but dropped them because she could not afford to keep a pay service. she's now using a fairly bad antenna and converter combo ... lots of signal drops.

I have my second account set up for my aunt in Arkansas with a 501 dvr that I own . She has the Welcome pack + locals for 14.99 a month and Encore pack for 4.99 + .01 cent Cinemax . All for $21.50 a month with tax included. This is the cheapest pack with about 20 miscellaneous channels and her locals. She is very happy and the price hasn't really gone up since we had it. Cheaper than the lowest Bronze pack.

Just make sure that you either put the acct in their name and/or put them down as an authorized user.

Actually if ALL she wants is local channels, you can even get the local only/access pkg for $10/month. It comes ONLY with local channels, but you can add on the FREE PI pkg, as well as any other a la carte channels (supers, Outdoor, etc) without having to pay the $6 "no AT/DL pkg" penalty.

Like with the welcom pkg, you must have your own equipment...

dishrich,

thanks! that's even better.

so it would be 10$ for locals + 0$ for pi+ 5.98 for dvr fee = <20$ a month with taxes?

to install, i would do roughly this?
- Install my owned equipment
- Get everything working with the receiver while its still on my account
- Call Dish
- Ask that they create a new account
- get them to put the receiver on that account
- get them to activate the locals only access package
- get them to activate the public interest channels?
- get them to record the physical address under the grandmothers name
- get them to bill to my address / credit card auto pay

all done?
