BBC America HD to Launch This Fall
The channel will feature the new Robin Hood series.

Washington, D.C. (June 2, 2008) -- BBC America will launch a High-Definition channel this fall, Multichannel News reports.

The news was revealed in a trade publication ad that appeared in Monday's editions. BBC America said last year that it would soon launch a high-def channel in the U.S., but did not offer specific dates.

Multichannel News writes that BBC America did not reveal which TV providers -- if any -- have agreed to carry the new HD channel. An exact launch date was also not provided.

The BBC America HD lineup will include the new series Robin Hood, which has aired in high-def on DIRECTV's channel 101, and the sci-fi series Torchwood, which now airs in HD on HDNet.

Does this mean that Torchwood will air on BBCA HD in addition to HDNet or in place of it? I wish it would stay with HDNet, because firstly, we already have HDNet whereas who knows when Dish will pick up BBCA HD, and secondly, HDNet is commercial-free and uncensored.

IIRC, BBC America is owned by Discovery, who are on very good terms with Dish, so it is logical to expect that one to be added soon after launch.

However, has it actually launched ??

PS Doctor Who and Top Gear are still not aired in the UK in HD...

VIP722, OTA locals, and Feb 2009

OTA local subchannel-numbers are suddenly incorrect
