Bad receiver?

I live and travel in an RV and have R16-500 Directv receiver and now a Carryout G2 portable dish. Beginning about a year ago I started having problems receiving all of my channels but was using an old triple LNB dish on a tripod that I had from my house. That dish was blown over in a storm and broke the rivets on the LNB arm. I purchased A new dish and still could not get it to align properly, at least I thought, so I just purchased a new Winguard G2 Cayyout dish. This was supposed to be an easy setup as it is fully automatic. I am traveling now and have set this dish up all the way from Florida to New Mexico and it will not receive all my channels, I have pixels and some will not come in at all. Today I replaced all the connectors with new compression connectors and no improvement. I even placed the dish on top of the RV where there was nothing at all to block it, we are in the desert so no trees, and still have problems receiving some channels and can not get my locals at all. I have talked to Direct TV twice today and they swear my locals are on but said they can't help with the dish as they don't service Winguard dishes.
When I run the signal strengths I get a lot of zeros and all the levels are low.
They look like this on tuner number 1
1-8: 47 50 50 0 65 74 49 73

They are like this on tuner number 2

I thought it strange that I am getting zeros on the same transponders? I don't know a lot about this but I am getting no help from Direct on it. Can it be a bad receiver? I am out of contract and have been for years and if I order a new receiver I have to back under contract so if it doesn't fix the problem I am stuck with direct TV. And can not switch to Dish if I want, even though I would hate to switch. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm gonna guess that you are looking at the 101 Sat ?
Also that you DID go thru the set up and verify that it is set up for D*, as it does DISH and Bell as well.
Are you getting the D* screens on the TV ?

Your numbers are all over the place, also D* won't be able to help you with this situation, I would contact Winegard.

I believe that the G2 is a self aligning unit.
Yes, it is, however, it has a very small dish as well, but I would expect numbers better than those.

Yes it is the 101 satellite and I did go through the setup and even checked the dip switches inside to make sure it was set for Direct. I am in Roswell New Mexico. When I was here two years ago I received the locals from Albuquerque and a few others, when I check my channels online it said I had them but they do not show up on the guide nor can I tune to them. I will contact Winegard tomorrow and see what they say. The signal strengths have been low all the way across the country so I don't think it is alignment or anything in the way of the dish.

If you live in Roswell, then yes, you should be getting the locals, Standard def of course.
See what D* has to say about the locals once you get Winegard figured out.

Your locals not being in the guide was a great clue to one problem at least. Your locals come from the 119 satellite and you must have some incorrect setting in the receiver, the dish type must be incorrect because if it was correct you would see the locals in the guide even if there was no signal. What dish type are you selecting in sat satup?

Tex, this unit ONLY sees the 101 Sat.

Tex, it's a single LNB, it can see the 101 OR the 119, not both, as far as I can tell.

However it works I am not exactly sure as I don't have one.

Still waiting for the SWM one for D* to come way down in price.

Could it be possible that this units dish moves from one Sat to another as needed ?
I wish I knew more about these, but I'm only interested in the HD versions and the only one that does HD for D* is using a SWM LNB so it can handle all 3 Sats.

Going back to this one, I just don't know for sure.

I've been looking thru the spec and what not, but have not seen anything specifically talking about the LNB, if it IS one that sees more than one at a time ...

If you read the actual manual, http://www.winegard.com/support?support=Carryout_G2 you will see the sat screen showing both. But it's all a bit odd, because it only shows a checkmark on one half of the 101 TPs.
Don't know how it works, maybe someone else can tall us.

Your readings show signal problems, is it on level ground?

I believe the carryout can get 101 and 119, but only one at a time. When the receiver calls the LNB to go to 119 (locals), the dish gets a different electrical signal and then reaims the dish at 119. The manual can clarify it, but it is a single LNB dish that only sees one satellite at a time.

I had a feeling that would be the case. But if the receiver is set to 3LNB Phase III, it should have the locals in the guide.

So that dish re aims every time a channel off the 119 is called for ....
That would seem to be something that would cause a longer than normal delay to pull in a channel.

Ok the repair guy came out from Direct and it was the receiver, it was weak and was causing low signal strengths. He replaced. It with a H22 DVR and my signal is now good and my locals are working. Glad the rep talked me into the equipment protection plan so all was free. This dish does cause a slight delay when switching from 101 to 119 but it is a split second so it is hardly noticeable.
