Guys my computer took a ride with death tonight and the offical time of death was at 1205am CST. as of right now :) I cant do any uplink reports. The computer just shut down on its own.. no warning... nothing.. has power but wont boot up... :shocked no fans running, nada... Called up Emachines.. they say that its the mother board and the computer is out of warrenty so I have to replace it myself.. Thanks for the Fing Tech support! :mad:The guy on the phone said he's seen it before on my model. Mind you this computer is about 1yr and 6months old... So... I gota go buy me a new puter now.... :)

Heres is the good news :) I am working on my Old computer (3 YEARS OLD) Its slow as a tick but keeps on kicking :) knock on wood. Im currently Swaping out parts, hard drives. 1 twininhan card. ect.... to get back up in running for the uplink Report... :) So have no fear if everything goes well I should be up and running within the hour... :) Thank god for backups :) Im on my note book right now so atleast im not out internet access...

Most likely, a bad power supply. If you're not into swapping yourself, find a local computer shop to do it. It'll probably set you back $40 for the part and $35 for labor. You certainly are committed, and I thank you for that...

Its not a bad powersupply... allready swapped :) Its definatly the mother board. im into windows installation right now.. :) 2 am :) Heres some picks of the destruction in progress... I also took a can of air to the old pc tonight.... Its amazing how much dust collects in these things... The first pick is the old pc.. (the one im going to be using) the 3rd pick is the emachine torn apart... and of chorse the spagettie mess..:hungry:

You have some exploded caps on that emachines motherboard! Check out the capacitors above the processor. Is that brown gunk I saw in the picture look like its coming out of the cap? Also, is the top of the cap bowed outward like it exploded inside?

I had an AMD motherboard that refused to install windows.. Turns out it had some bad caps (mine were bowed out and one had some gunk coming out). I desoldered them, replaced them with caps of the same size from parts I had laying around, and boom, worked like a charm.

If you dont have old parts as a source for new capacitors, try radio shack or www.digikey.com .

Take a picture of that area of the motherboard and I can compare and make sure its actually the problem :)

Heres a webpage discussing the problem:

hokie I will take a look at it in the morning.. (later today) and take some pics for you... But right now were back in buisness... :) Im very happy to report.... just fired up the good old software and im looking good...

lol congrats. Stupid motherboards. Heres another site talking about the problem. Apparently its affected pretty much every major motherboard maker in recent years:

I searched my motherboard, and low and behold, ITS ON THERE! This is my less than 1 year old p4 asus p5gdc-v. The onboard video went out on it a month ago, and I just bought a new pci-x video card.. Well I removed the cpu fan, and it was hiding 10 bad caps. UGH.

Anyways, looking forward to more good news tomorrow around 2pm :)

hokie its definatly bad caps.. you can see the where the electrolite is coming out from the top.... :( I was trying to take pictures but my camera gets all fuzzy when i go to take them up close.. It sucks because i just went from a 2.8 GHZ processer to a 1GHZ processer.. Its like going back into the stone age :)

The case of the old machine looks like an ATX. Some great deals are always out there for MOBO-Processor combinations.

Has been a problem with electrolytic capacitors(condensers) since the dawn of time(so to speak). Probably the most common failure in the old Tube type radios. Some are not sized correctly for the amount of energy they are handling. Others fail quicker if they are "mothballed". :)

I had this simular thing happen with my webstream encoder and audio server PC, Caps gave up (bulging etc..) system started to crash majorly and act funky then finally killed the HD with currupted data and then wouldnt post anymore! This is a known issue as others have said with a bunch of motherboards from a while back!

Best wishes to you.

Im going to personally build my next computer instead of taking the cheap way. :) This 1 GHZ machine is allready driving me insane :) Fortunatly the hd's are still intact with good info.. as that has helped me get going alot quicker than normal..

When bad things happen to good people.....

Thanks again for your efforts. The silent majority appreciates it.....
