Bad advice? Mapdown/Lockout

There have been some suggestions to lock out stations to control mapdown appearance in the guide - with some unintended consequences.

If you don't like mapdown, turn it off - but you will be missing the convenience that it gives. It is better to control the channels that appear by adding/subtracting the HD channels using favorites in the guide. My own preference is to leave all of the mapdowns intact [added to the favorites that I use] and understand that with HD priority enabled selecting a channel (i.e. 110) will give you HD. A simple press of the down arrow will give you the SD program and the up arrow will take you back to HD - intuitive and simple. Your guide will be fully functional for tuning, searching or recording.

Hmmm... the down arrow thing is new to me; I will give it a try on 110. Where did you find that?

Actually, the up and down arrows have always been the quickest way to change to the next channel up or down in your favorites (or preprogrammed) channel list.

Yep - I've never really understood using passwords/locking out channels so they don't appear in the "all chan/all sub" lists (except for the porn channels - I've got those hidden 'til I want to see them ). IMO much easier to maintain a "Main" favorites so that you can tailor it to what you want. I keep pretty much all channels that we'd ever want to see (even ones that are almost never watched) in a "Main" favorites. Don't have to scroll around the shopping/religious channels, etc., but can keep all the map downs present. Have all the LIL and OTA locals in here. Now I've put the new mapped down HDs in this list also, and removed the corresponding ones in the 9000 range. Keeps the searching, etc. working.....very nice.
