A few weeks ago I received and a automated call from Dish saying that one of my receivers need to have its smart card replaced and to call a toll free number to have one sent out. I did just that and a few days later, I had a new yellow smart card, no instructions came with it. I waited about 3 weeks, I was busy, what can I say… Well, last night I had some free time so I thought I would replace it. I pulled out the blue card put in the new yellow, the receiver rebooted and the only channels I had was NASA and one music. I called Dish, waited 22 min explained the problem and was transferred to advanced tech support. 27 minutes later, I get the advanced tech who transfer me to “Automated Smart Card Replacement”. It asks me if I’m seeing error message XXX press 1, error message XXX press 2 for all other messages press 3. I pressed 3 and was transferred… again… 18 min later I finally talk to a person who seems to know what’s up. I give her all the receiver model “721” and smart card number and she activates the card in the system and I reboot the receiver… Still no channels… We do this 4 times… Midway through the 4th time, what do ya know… I get disconnected.. Sh1t…

I’m pretty pissed at this point, I go get a beer out the fridge and call back. Another 20 minutes in the queue… I explain the situation, and finally tell her if she transfers me she better transfer me to the person I need to speak with to cancel my account.. She puts me on hold and 3 min later comes back asking me to reboot my receiver once more.. Still nothing… She puts me on hold once more, about 5 minutes this time and tells me they need to replace me receiver. Huh? What even complicates it more is I own the 721. Anyway, to keep a long story short, or shorter at this point. Dish is sending me a brand new 721 and a new yellow card. All I can say is Dish CSR’s Suck…. I don’t know how many times, while I was on hold, I heard “ Our staff is highly trained.” Yeah, right.. If that was the case I wouldn’t have been transferred 4 times and spent 2 hours on the phone for a simple smart card replacement… Ugh.. . Dish…. And yes, I have had a few beers.. What can I say, I’m a Dish customer…
 
we should have a Dish network drinking game where you call about something and take a shot for each time you get put on hold, 2 shots for a transfer, and 3 shots if you stump an advanced tech agent.

Sorry about the hassle. 721's have had issues with the smart card replacement. It's a nifty receiver otherwise.

Putting a whole new meaning to the phrase "CSR roulette" :D
