In LA I saw an TV ad from AT&T promoting 'free HD' for a year or $240 value when subscribing to their phone/tv bundled package.

I went on to their website and looks like AT&T has a partnership with DISH.

So how can existing DISHY customer get free HD for a year?

Dish also has a fiber based television service called U-verse. Perhaps the ad was for that service and not the Dish Network service that they resell.

AT&T has partnerships with Dish in all it's regions except the former BellSouth regions (SouthEastern portion of the country) which it partners with DirecTV. It's also rolling out it's own IPTV called U-Verse.

It is my understanding this deal applies to any of the above mentioned 3 as long as you order it through AT&T.
