Anyone having problems with their service today?
I am supposed to have 6Mbps, usually its around 5.8...
Today after 12pm noon it has been around 510kbps - 1Mbps.
Not sure what the hell is going on..just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem.

You are correct... had a brain fart there for a moment, apparently. I had just been reading another thread about someone's cable modem service and was still thinking about their issue.

DSL is not affected by how many neighbors are online. Since your pair of wires go back to the DSLAM.

Moisture in the cables or connections can change line capacitance causing speed changes especially if you are on the outer edges of the allowable 18,000 wire foot mark.

I live over 24,000 wire feet away from the central office.
My connection is never better than 1 to 1.2 mbps.
My neighbor worked at the phone company and conditioned my line removing bridge taps etc.

We have an old straight lay pulp cable that runs for about 5 blocks. It has a lead jacket and cracks all time. They have to pressurize the cable with Nitrogen to keep the water out.
I think that old cable is 50 years old or older. I think it is 2400 pairs.

After heavy rains sometimes we lose sync with verizon's servers.

I got DSL by accident since it was not really "available in my area". But basically I have to take it or leave it as it is. It's still better than dial up and a lot cheaper than satellite.

I believe Icewolf has U-verse, not DSL or traditional cable modem service.

You Sir are very lucky to even have DSL at your 24,000 ft distance.
Normally they will not allow it to be turned on at that distance around here they won't turn it on over 14,000 although I've seen some at 18,000, they changed the distance awhile back, it was at 18,000 and dropped it back when they were taking to many errors.
AS for your Pulp cable, if it has cracks and has been repaired and slickered anywhere, chances are that it is no longer being pressurized . It was at one point, but not anymore.
