The new fox show "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" has become a family favorite in my house, with my nine year old. The show is interesting in that its "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire for Morons," sort of; but in many ways it is pretty challenging.

I watch it with my son, and sometimes my pretty gifted THIRD grader gets it right without doubt, and I am uncertain. Jeff Foxworth drives me nuts, in that he drags the show out for quite a long time with answers. But it is fun.

We just watched this week's show; and while the contest was over-hyper, he was probably one of the smartest guys they have ever had on it. Yet, even though he got to the million dollar question (the second contestant in a row to do so), there is NO incentive to go for it. Leave with $1M or $25K if you choose to answer the question, or walk with $500K. That's a no-brainer. Walk with a half-million.

So, have you been stumped? On what questions?

Tonight, I am embarrased to say that the John Adams question would have got me.

Yes I love that show too, everybody in the house watches and my 10 year old daughter sure can bang them out, but most of the time I keep up with her, there have been a few that she didn't know and I myself was unsure on, I'll have to post here the next time I run into one that stumps me.

Not in HD right

My local Fox station recently went HD, However they are running commercials saying watch Foxworthys 5th grader IN HD

Arent I correct 5th grader is NOT in HD from FOX?

thanks

It has always been in 4:3 when I have watched it.

It's amazing how much we forget, but it is an enjoyable show.

I'm actually surprised that people get stumped on some of these questions. None of them have given me a moment's pause. Makes me want to be a contestant.

Yeah, a fairly easy $500,000. (Not sure about the million dollar question though, as there is little incentive to try to answer it).

Some idiot tried for the million and lost.
I would have walked away, even if it's my best subject, same as the professional poker player did.

I've had a couple questions stump me, typically the measurement ones.
Something tells me that they're not screening for Jeopardy quality contestants for this show.

Yeah, its amazing isn't it. One minute you have $500,000, the next $25,000. Always a gamble, I guess. But I would have taken the half million and run.

So these people must take a test and fail before being accepted to play. Seriously, a woodwind, synonym, and chlorophyll?

S~

I am sure they are probably tested and interviewed and the Jeopardy champions are weeded out along with completely dim bulbs. They have to have an entertainment factor, so they need it to look challenging but reasonable to most viewers.
