Are these signal strength readings good or bad for Dish 1000?

I recently started losing signal even during fair weather so I tried my hand at pointing the dish. My setup is a Dish 1000 with triple LNB, 722 and 322 receivers. I am located in zip code 41101 and I have an unobstructed view. It was able to raise the level on 129 from 30 to 53. Here are my readings currently:

110 ........... 77
119 ........... 73
129 ........... 53

Are these acceptable or should I tweak some more?

OK. I haven't experienced any dropouts since I re-aimed this morning. The test will be the next large storm. I have been losing signal in almost every storm.

That's way higher than I can get in our market.. even with a Super Buddy meter.

The readings are from the 722

My dish is close to the back door so the wife can relay numbers to me.

make sure you tighten every thing down
dont want the dish spinning in the wind

Were those maximum numbers, hopefully excluding spots, or from some specific TP (transponder)? In the old days is was TP11 except 129 and 61.5 require another choice. There is a big variation between TPs.

i've had rain fade issues lately too. after looking at this thread i checked my signal. i have the same setup as hokie 722 322 old 1000 dish (not the .2). my 129 is at 40. 110 at 58. something is wrong with 119.. "not locked name not acquired". oh and my zip is 47711 if you need that.
any suggestions?

Too many possibilities without more info... Run a Check Switch and then go to Menu, 6-1-3 and let System Info run it's test. When it says 100%, if it says "Check Details", go to the Details button and tell us what it says.

Also post what result you get in Check Switch.

Signal doesn't seem to be an issue and it appears your LNB is ok.... have you checked if you can get a Lock on the 119 on the other receiver? The dish type doesn't really matter once you're properly pointed... you can leave it on 500.

I tried several transponders and found there is a variation. I didn't write down the numbers. I think these were the best readings for each satellite. I was surprised how a little adjustment goes a long way. I think I moved the azimuth more than the elevation.

The installer mounted my dish on a deck handrail. I know now that I shouldn't have let him get away with that. Deck hand rails are not the most stable structures and are subject to warping. My install story would make a good separate topic. After the installer left I noticed he had routed the dual coax touching a bare bulb lighting fixture. He also did not carry a masonry drill with him. I think he was counting on replacing a DTV installation or placing the dish exactly where the cable entered the house. Fortunately, I had already drilled a hole in the brick for another reason and he could re-use it.

My girlfriend hates doing this when I want to peak my dishes or repoint my antenna.


I finally got smart and started using a small tv.. and a long coax from the receiver.

sorry about hijacking this thread, but I'm having a big issue with constant break ups on my HD channels. The signal strength on 110 and 119 is around 50, 129 is around 15. I went outside to try to move the dish (making slight movements, with my wife relaying the results. 110 and 119 improved to 50 (from the mid 40s), and 129 stayed the same. The dish is mounted on a fence (I know that's probably the biggest part of the issue), but I can't move it. I've had the dish for a few years now. The break ups started gradually.

I don't know what else to do. Would dish come out to fix it? Sub? How much would it cost. What is acceptable.

There are no trees in the way.

I have a dish 500 and 622 dvr.

If it can't be fixed, I'll have no choice but to switch to another carrier.
