I live on the edge of my local DMA for Martin KY 41649 my locals are "Charleston-Huntington WV" is it possible to change my local DMA to one from Lexington KY. I would rather have Lexington KY locals since I live in Kentucky and not West By-God Virgina :p

Years ago in order to get the national networks from D* all I had to do was to get a statement from those stations permitting me receive the national network channels simply because I can not receive my local OTA stations because of the terrain in this part of eastern Kentucky making it impossible to receive them without subscribing to cable or spending a small fortune on a hilltop antenna system. Would this getting permission still work for me make the change:cool:

thanks

For nationals you can call and request a "waiver", Direct will contact the local stations for approval. Most stations do not give approvals anymore.

As for your DMA, you can only have one, search for "moving" if you are wanting to look at changing. Essentailly you use an alternate servicea address and any problems with your equip then need to be fixed by you or you move back.

I just "moved" last week when I upgraded to HD. I just used the address of someone I knew in a neighboring county. I don't get a paper bill, so they don't hassled.

You can have a separate billing address from your service address so there is no need for anyone to get hassled. Just have the bill sent to your "billing" address.

Including commentary on how doing so represents fraud and a violation of your subscriber agreement.

In this case, D* RARELY enforces it. Yes, it against the "rules", however you are still paying for it. It is a grey area for most, even if it is not for D*. I would not worry about getting caught (to the OP)

we the viewers should have the choice in the matter.

by the way, who in their right mind started this lame a$$ DMA law anyway   I know its got to be the man! Big Brother

We the viewers should have the choice of which city or cities we would like to view, not the jerks (big brother) in the suites sitting back not knowing what in the H - E - double hockey sticks is on those channels or care. All they care about is getting our vote and stealing our money...aka bailout's then raise taxes to pay for the bailout  As long as we pay for the services we the viewers should have the choice in the matter.

Right on! I'm in the same situation regarding the DMA with DN, but just recently I got word they're trying to get congress to allow people to get local channels out of their DMA. I'm hoping this gets passed soon so I can see Lexington channels along with the Huntington-Charleston WV channels.

As the OP stated that they wanted Lexington LIL, it would seem inappropriate to mention waivers and/or DNS at all.

Since you called me out as "inappropriate", I read the entire post, again:

Actually "Big Brother" has nothing to do with it.
I believe it started with your LOCAL network people that would like to think that if you viewed a different city, you would no longer be buying your groceries ect. from the local area, quite ridiculous actually, but it all comes down to the amount of people they can count on for the advertising rates they can charge, the more people in that cities market, the more the people running commercials can charge ..... see it's actually rather complicated .....

Three Letters: NAB (National Association of Broadcasters). They want to force you to watch your local stations to ensure you see local advertising (and so they can sell more)

Yep all about advertising.

boy that didn't take long for a "goody goody" to show up and tell us we're all going to hell :rolleyes:

I'll just leave it at that since obviously your views are different than others

Yes, that would be very nice, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
That would probably go under the Significantly Viewed channels that was talked about several years back.

It would be nice, but I'm not expecting it.
