We have PocketDISH .

If you have kids and plan a family trip, all you have to do is record a day's worth of Cartoon Network or Disney and transfer it to the PocketDISH. It is well worth it.

The 7" is nice and has 16:9 screen.

If you look through the forum, you'll find that just about everyone who has one loves it.

There is more than one DishPlayer model from which to choose.

The Archos AV500 is equivalent to one of those models and recently got a teriffic review and Editor's Choice award at PC Magazine online:

No point, my current receiver (522) doesn't support it (yet). Real time recording is not an option, if I'm going to spend that kind of time I'll just watch it then and get rid of it or burn it permanently to a dvd.

I got a slingbox instead, so I can watch my DVR anywhere...

Like you I too have my fingers crossed that an emulator that will allow dumping of programming to a pc via USB is what I am wanting.
