Unusual question I know, but has anyone identified the IP addresses or servers DirecTV boxes "phone home" to when connected to the internet? I'd like to be able to use my in home viewing again, but I had to disconnect my DVR from the internet because it officially is located in my "RV". I'd like to be able to reconnect the receiver to my home network, but block it from connecting to DirecTV's servers at the router level. Anyone have any thoughts?

No clue what they use for an IP. You could maybe set up a filter to only allow the mac addresses listed to have access to local content.

Perfect solution... I should've thought of that. Thanks for the tip, that will work perfectly..

If any of the directv receivers are internet connected on a swm network they will collect the data from all the connected receivers for one upload.

I don't think Directv will care if an RV receiver is used in the house, it would make sense to take your receiver inside for winter and use it if you have a room to use it in.

If it is an RV receiver on a separate account that may be different. To stop the receiver sharing info with the other receivers you could add a band stop filter to the coax.
That would also eliminate and whole-home dvr to that receiver though.

Yep, I can tell you for certain that DirecTV does not have any problem with you moving your receivers..
I've helped lots of customers who take receivers to their hunting camps, or Out to the RV when they go for a Weekend getaway. It's all good.

Nope but the phone numbers are: ( 18666858469! | 18005315602! | 18667092073! ) I've blocked them from calling so that I can still have them connected for the on screen caller ID. Don't want them making calls because it costs me a penny a minute.

Wow people still pay per min for phone service! I have gotten so used to NOT paying for phone service that I really never thought about it. OOMA is great and that's unlimited calling to everywhere. Also, Why are you paying per min on a TOLL FREE number(s)! Does the 3 min that it takes for the DirecTV receiver to do a download really kill your budget that much that you have to block them?

Well per min is ALL I pay.

No monthly fees, free unlimited incoming, currently have 6 lines. Just costs 1 cent a min for toll free numbers and 2 cents a min for all other USA calls.

Runs me $5 a month with my usage, cheaper than paying for a unlimited plan which they do have for $20/mo.

http://www.CallCentric.Com + Two Cisco PAP2T + a Polycom IP deskphone.

What codec does Ooma use? I'm able to set my own to 64kbps G.711u which supports faxing, and isn't Ooma just one line? I have 3 digit extension calling from any phone to any phone in the house.

Going to your systems test and I'll tell your IP address

No my Ooma device has two lines, also they have a premier faxing service that triples the bandwidth during a fax call to ensure that there are no errors during the call. It essentially repeats the packets sent (x3) so that way if there is packet loss it has two other packets that the call can use to ensure the fax goes through. from OOMA's Webpage.

Premier Fax does require more bandwidth than traditional phone calls. Regular fax calls require a base level of 100kbps and for each level of redundancy that is enabled (up to 3x), we recommend at least 80kbps of bandwidth. This means that at maximum redundancy, Ooma recommends that you have at least 340kbp of bandwidth.

The default codec used is Ilbc with the option to move up to G711u.

K9sat, I always have used my fax.com. As for the Loma resending the packets multiple times when faxing, sounds like they have problems with the CRC, due to poor software programming.

Count me in as a very happy Ooma user. We use it for our home phone, and just recently I added one of their Linx adapters for my Brother Fax/Printer/Scanner/Copier. I found in my case that even with the Premier Fax set to Level 3 I had to use the Compatibility (9600 baud) setting on the Brother to make faxes send consistently. But so far at that level I haven't encountered any problems. My Premier subscription runs right at $14 a month including taxes.

I don't use internet based fax services because I have a fax server setup that auto saves and prints incoming faxes.

Then I have a separate Lexmark fax machine for outgoing faxes.

Ya, I don't have any problems sending faxes over G.711u with my Cisco/Linksys PAP2T.

30mbps/4mbps internet with decent ping times though.
