Hi, I'm new to the forum (tons of great info on here). I couldn't find any info for upcoming HD Local channels for DirecTv. I live in Dayton, OH and can't believe we don't have the locals in HD yet.

If anyone knows of a list or has heard anything about Dayton getting HD locals, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I did some searches as well and no indication of Dayton OH. Plenty of markets around it and much smaller but no announced plans or even rumors. Sorry, we will keep looking. Its possible may not be available till Directv 11 is launched next year.

Try this link at DBS Forums.

Looks like I'm even worse off than you, being in DMA#98-Altoona/Johnstown,PA.:(

that's pretty acurate, brwer. chase carey said back in may (at q1 webcast), that the smaller local markets would start turning on after d11 launches next year. but i'm looking at my notes and it looks like he also said there would be 75 hd local markets up and running by the end of the year.

I'd love a little direction on this topic. I live in Louisville, KY. We recently went with our local Insight Cable with our new HDTV because Insight offered local channels in HD.

Earlier this week my wife was in a Cingular/AT&T store and was approached by an independent marketing guy working for AT&T/Directv. The offer was good--the same monthly charge as our intro cable price + $700 in rebates. Great. The question we pressed was--does Directv offer local channels (and we listed: WHAS, WAVE, etc.) in HD. The answer as and emphatic "yes." I checked directv.com and Louisville is not listed. So I called Directv and the representative said the website wasn't updated yet, so it was a "yes," although he was less emphatic than the guy in the store. I checked DirecTV: A page for retransmission agreements and local markets - DBSForums Discussion Forums, and Louisville is listed in Red with white lettering--not looking good.

Any help in disentangling these different stories?

Thank you.

Louisville KY is not served by HD locals yet. Go to antennaweb.org and see how far you are from the towers. Directv can always install an OTA antenna for you and use those until Louisville locals are served via sat. Its not right now but will be within a year.

I think a common poster on the forums keeps it up to date. Its hosted on DBSTalk but not necessarily updated directly by them. But it is very nicely done. I thought of trying to do it here but these were so good there was no way I could do it better.

Can this type of thing be kept updated ?
Very nice and neat :)

Thanks, Jimbo! I try to keep them as up-to-date as possible. If you see any errors or know of any updates, please PM me either at DBSTalk or here!

They're the reason I keep Netscape 7.2 on my computer... it's the last version that has Composer, the best little HTML editor I've found.

I'm doing the listing on DBSForums.com. That listing is so we know what stations should be available if there are new markets announced.

One website I read states the NAB is unhappy with DirecTV because they did not start HD service to Alaska and Hawaii. It is why I still believe that those will be available sometime soon on DirecTV's system.

Louisville OTA

I live in Oldham County at N 38 deg. 23.906' W085deg.23483'. The elevation of my driveway is about 680 feet. I had no luck at all with the DirecTv provided antennas (they tried several different ones.) I now have a “Terk TV38 HDTV Antenna Pro” that I purchased at Circuit City. Stewart Electronics (502-222-6003) in LaGrange did the installation. I get a very good HD picture about 90% of the time. I do have problems with certain atmospheric conditions and in storms. The signal is always much better later at night. (Suggestion: if you really don’t want to miss a program record it on both SD and HD channels).

antenna.org tells me that WAVE-DT (NBC) and WLKY-DT (CBS) are 24 miles away (they share the same tower). WHAS-DT (ABC) is 29 miles away and WDRB-DT (FOX) is 40 miles away. Fortunately the direction of all 3 sites is within 3 degrees of each other. I also get good reception on PBS (39 miles away), including all six sub-channels.

The antenna is mounted just above the top of the roof of a one-story house.

Thought I would bring this back to live rather than create a whole new thread. Is there any new updates? From a friend who works as a DTV installer he said we could get local HDs any day or it could be weeks.

F the NAB and what makes them happy. IF they had their way every channel would have 5 sub channels.
