I have noticed a lot more occurances of blank screen video and audio drop-out / sync issues in the past 3 or 4 weeks.

I'm also getting a new (actually reoccurance of old) problem that when I repeatedly press skip (forward or back) quickly 3 or 4 times or the FF / FR buttons, the program info screen often pops up causeing you to have to deal with that before resuming skip or fast forward. I remember this was an issue about 6 months or so ago and stopped after one of the downloads.

And most recently on channel 100, since the Olympic mosiac came up, selecting highlights will sometimes cause a blank screen lock-up that requires a soft boot to get out of.

As a side note, my 508 in the family room, which has been rock solid since I got it over 3 years ago, is all of a sudden having numerous "lost signal" & "bad check switch" problems.

Yea, yea, I know what it sounds like.........but I'm serious. This stuff really did all start a few weeks ago. And besides, I DID say something nice about Dish - that my 508 has been rock solid for years.:D In fact, I've loved my 942 - still do dispite a few aggravating issues that have cropped up.

Some of you kids don't know what real aggravation is:D . Like the blackout issues with the 4000 back in 98-99 or the major blow the Dishplayer 7200 took after a download somewhere around 2000 or '01..............yep, them wer the days - had to walk thru 10 foot snowdrifts - up hill - both ways - just to get the remote.

My 942 has been great since may of 05. and has gotten better with every firmware update. (never missed a recording)

My two 811's on the other hand.... I can't wait to get rid of them both.

OK. Serious now. What is your LNB/ Switch configuration? I would imagine that Vermont is pretty cold now and some LNB's and Switches misbehave with temperature changes. And they get old and cranky. Usually manifested by sparodic signal problems.

942 & Fast Forward

Walt I had the 15 sec skip button problem too, but my screen would lock up with bright colored pixels. Did a soft reset to clear up problem. Now I only use the fast forward button on either 60x or more and never get any lock ups...

Without going up there I don't know exactly what the LNBs are. I have a Dish 500 at 119 & 110 + a smaller dish for 61.5. The Dish500 has 2 LNBs I believe. The only inline switch is a DP-34.

I'd consider it was the weather too but the signal / switch check problems only occured on the 508. The 942 was fine.

Yea but shouldn't have to forgo the skip buttons. When it happened before and went away, it really went away and the skip buttons worked fine. There's also a speed issue associated with the skip button problem. I've noticed that with the skip button problem is present, you can still use them but you have to do hesitate slightly between presses. 3 or 4 quick presses will pop up the channel info window every time. When the problem went away before, I could then rapid press the skips as fast as I could physically press the button and it worked fine. Also when the problem is present, the ff & rw arrows suffer similar problems in that if you hit the fw 3 or 4 times real quick to get up to 300x, it will sometimes pop up the info screen too.

Yeah the techs they send out for installs put you out for 5 minutes, just enough so they can install those tiny transmitters in your teeth, you know the ones people on the safe unit at your local (or state hospital) talk about so much.

After that you start logging on to satelliteguys weekly, then daily, then you become Scott and Iceberg's slave for life :)))))))))))))))

Now if it was the 811 i'd believe it, that xxxxbox was getting me insane just to do the install, but the 942 has been rock solid for me.
