Any word on Skyangel adding more channels?

I'm a new SkyAngel user and have been very pleased with the clean content so far. I was just curious if anyone has heard if they will be adding more channels soon? I know part of the Discovery family is available, so I would assume they may add more?

I just received an email from the American Family Association (AFA) - the Christian organization which fights for traditional values in the moral decline of today's society. AFA will be introducing two new channels exclusive for Sky Angel. One will be an AFA general family-friendly channel (no clue as to what programs will be on it) and one will be specifically for homeschooled children - making it the first national channel dedicated to homeschooling. You can try looking on the Sky Angel page, but they may not have the updated information on the new channels yet. I will post the details about the email in a seperate topic.

I received an email from AFA about their SkyAngel offer:

"We believe you will enjoy the uplifting and wholesome programming Sky Angel and our new AFA channel will provide, so we have a special offer for you! When you make a $200 donation to AFA, you will receive a free Sky Angel receiver and a six month subscription to Sky Angel television. If, after 6 months you want to drop Sky Angel, you may do so with no questions asked. This offer is only good through May 1st. "

SkyAngel will give you the box for free with an 18 month contract commitment. If you terminate your contract early, SA hits you with a $200 termination fee. If you plan to honor the SA contract, you will have paid $425 in 18 months (you get a one month free trial). AFA is $200 with 6 months of programming. Add an additional 12 months of service (18 months total) and your total cost is $500. So in the long run, AFA costs a little more for 18 months of service, but you are only obligated for 6 months.

What I wonder is if they are coming out with a new reciever which will stream HD. Why should Christain progarming be inferior to secular?

I'd also be interested in having an HD-capable box, since I've got an HDTV already. Of course I still have to GET the box, etc. since I'm having trouble ordering the service...I need to call them tomorrow and find out what's up.

Neulion just introduced an HD STB several months ago that they claim can operate at a bit rate as low as 1.5 mb/s (? not sure where I read this), but I have no idea what Sky Angel's plans are for HD. The service is still great in SD.

I have to agree. I'm getting a better SD picture with SkyAngel than I did with Direct. Surprisingly, I don't miss Direct a bit.

Jeff, do you have info that the NRB channel will be coming soon? To my knowledge, it hasn't been announced by Sky Angel. I read some time back on Christian Newswire that it was coming, then it was actually on SA for a short time, then it was gone. Same thing happened back when the Liberty Channel was added -- they were on, then they were pulled until they resolved some copyright issues.

I have no information, other then the press release listed on the NRB web site NRB Network on SkyAngel
Maybe it is copyright issues? I would think if anything changed that NRB would have dropped the press release from their web site? I hope they're added soon.

Same here, I emailed NRB Network at least a month ago but it was never delivered. I also emailed the two program directors (which were delivered) but received no response. At least they could respond with a "Thank you for contacting NRB Network" and they should remove the non-working email address.

American Family Radio (AFR) was an audio channel on Sky Angel satellite once upon a time. AFA television appears to be very informative and an excellent addition.

AFA just finished their semi-anual share-a-thon fund raiser. They kept promoting their new AFA channel on Sky Angel which was scheduled to launch on May 1. In conjunction with the fund raiser, anyone who donated $200 or more was eligible to receive a SkyAngel IPTV box and 6 months of programming with no further contract obligations.

I did this and am waiting for my box to arrive. It's been a week since I made my donation. Since AFA is handling this, I'm sure it will take longer to processess the order because I did not go directly through SkyAngel.

I chose the AFA option because I wanted to support their ministry, and I liked the fact that I had no further obligation. Sky Angel was giving you the box for free plus one free month to cancel if you do not like the service. Now they are giving you 2 months free, but you must pay anual subscription fee in advance.
