I'm currently an OTA only user. I have a custom built HTPC that I use to record 3 OTA channels at once, but for the second time in the last year my hard drive has died on me. I'm tired of tearing the computer apart to replace the drive, and then setting Vista up all over again. Yuck!
To be honest, the only thing on cable/sat that I really want is regional sports to watch the Dodgers, and now I want a DVR to replace my HTPC. From what I've read the TurboHD packages are what I should be looking at.
I'm looking at TurboHD Silver because it comes with the regional sports, so I figure I might as well upgrade over bronze for a few dollars more a month. In addition I will sign-up for the Locals so I get guide data, and then I can record up to three OTA at a time using my existing antenna. I also want the 722 receiver. On the Dish website I see this priced as follows:
Monthly Fees
TurboHD Silver $30.39
Los Angeles, CA local channels $5.00
DISH Network DVR Service Fee $4.60
Monthly Total Price $39.99
One-Time Credits and Fees
$50.00 credit on 1st bill -$50.00
UPGRADE CHARGE $50.00
Activation Fee $99.00
Activation Fee waived. -$99.00
Amount Due Today $50.00
Right now I'm planning on calling Dish Store to sign-up because they have the $50 rebate for TurboHD packages, something unavailable on the Dish website. I figure that will cover the upgrade to the 722.
Am I getting about as cheap as I can for HD and a dvr with the regional sports? My other question is about hidden fees or price changes. Is the $30.39 a promotional price that will change? I know I'm getting the DishHome free for 9-months, and unless I cancel it I'll have to pay that too. Anything else or other tips? Thanks everybody!
