I remember dishing out the big bucks to get the Dtv Tivo, and then they started giving them at reduced cost if you threatened to leave, and now they are free for a lot of people

Is the same thing happening, or going to happen with the HD receivers? I dont even care about the HD DVR's. I just want a standard HD receiver.

You can get standard HD units off ebay for $175 and up. Just add it to your account. Just be sure to watch who you buy from. I doubt you will get one for free unless you work out some contract/retention/rebate deal.

Just wondering Charper, why would someone buy the HD receiver whereever at $175 when they can get the HD Tivo at virtually the same cost, or better right through D*? Heck I still have no use for my D* HD revceiver that got replaced by the newer HD Tivo unit. Is there really a market for them?

I don't know, some people just don't want, or need a DVR thats built in. I would venture a GUESS that the vast majority of HD units in use are the non-DVR variety.
