HEY ICEBERG

I don't know how...duplicate post!!!! too many tabs open....delete this one...SORRY man...

I searched for the chip numbers used in the Openbox etc. This one looks like a Solomend and when you hit SUPPORT, they have it all...except for the STB.

Specs look the same and I was dieing to see the manual...But no luck!

Just for fun, have a look.

Found a review in Spanish but it has pictures.

Hey blind...I'm been reading till my eyeballs are bleeding...double posted somewhow...they claim to manufacture it....the sopport has stuff for all the PCI and USB stuff...but notta for the STB.

I was hoping to find a source of good firmware and a manual. We know how to change all the sats and Americanize it....

Right now it is kinda chimexamified!

Say that ten time real fast....

Ya, I think I seen some pics in a Sadoun video...they were not stills like these. Anyway, I emailed Tevii asking for a copy of the firmware and a pdf manual. I also fond an Openbox S9 that IS NOT like ours. It had internet browsing and all.

Someone called it a firmware circus...how is this for a hardware circus? Dual tuners, eSATA, internal HDD, WiFi, mkv and on and on.

We bought the wrong one! No really, it is a nightmare with all the names and at least 3 sites saying they manufacture them. My box (cardboard) says made in China....we know that!

Another S9 (not ours for sure). Might be that twin tuner that was posted a few days ago.

OPENBOX.ua - Openbox® S9 HD PVR -

that unit in the link looks cool. anyone else think that looks like enigma os on it ? maybe thats where the references to the dreambox 800 comes from. definately alot of confusion surrounding these units. i thought dvbworld was involved with its development. maybe sadoun would be able to shed some more light as he had worked with someone to fix the ac3 and motor/switch issues.

crackt out,.

I have never seen enigma but just you tubed it..Looks like a maybe. This all started by searching for the chips used in the S9 (Main chipset: ALI M3602B+M3501A1). I thought if I could find a box with those chips we might just find some other FW with better features or at least the clock and stuff work (no green). I noticed my menus are slower on 1080 HD, CPU has more to do. That twin tuner one has a 396 MHz CPU. We have 300 Mhz.

That Tevii b600 might have usable FW. We can replace the sat list and stuff. Is there anything that would stop us from using it in the US if it had English menus?

I've never heard of anyone getting firmware from other models to work, only those with the Solomend / SatHawk / Openbox name. (And to further complicate things, there's an Openbox S9, so-called, that has its firmware in .ird files rather than in .abs files. Maybe that's the one discussed above, I have no idea. But if it is, it's not from the same company at all.)

Good luck to Sadoun or anyone else getting help from DVBWorld, they're not answering my questions or anyone else's I've heard from regarding their own PCI and USB receivers, never mind the Openbox.

The only person I've heard of who's been in touch with the Openbox manufacturer lately has been the owner of FridgeFTA, but he only supports his own customers, gets rather hostile when other people ask him for Openbox support in fact, and is also hostile to this website, so whatever you do, don't mention it if you go there! Also, even though he's been in touch with the manufacturer, they haven't delivered any fixes they've promised him either so far!

Our problem is we don't know who the manufacture is...
And yes, I hate that exclusive stuff...The Ariva tool...exclusive my foot.

Also I have all the files one might need to fix or brick their box. Even one I have never seen before. It lets you change the boot image (pic). If you notice you'll see a pic flash before the channel comes on. Well, it is held in the main abs dump and I have a program to extract it or replace it...

I have to figure out what goes in it...everything I tried gives me errors but shows up...I don't want to put a file in my box that had an error in the computer (here's your sign!).

Also, I know you can't just stick any old FW in a box...but the sathawk, solomend, and S9 seem interchangeable. That Tevii B600 looks like a good bet.

The manufactures of these boxes need to realize that if we had really good boxes our friends would want one! I have an old friend that got him one and even learned how to install a BUD with Vbox...and he don't even like computers!

I have a question that might be better off in a new thread, but why don't they allow us to subscribe...these boxes have slots? You think it is because of card sharing and all that jazz? Looking all over the world all the FW I find is for some kind of sharing or they can't get their porn!

One answer to that is there ain't 250 million of us with them! Strength in numbers, right. I'm on the hunt guys for something we can use to get rid of the green, fix the clock, timers, and that little REC icon....Trick is we don't wanna fix the green and break the motor or audio...

I think one reason that American programmers won't let us subscribe with an arbitrary box is because they don't want us recording anything unencrypted. Dish and, as far as I know, DirecTV encrypt all their recordings. This is stupid, partly because bootleg copies get out anyway (folks with expensive capture cards and time to kill) and partly because it flies in the face of not just common law, but also common logic. You can make analog copies of anything for your own use, so why not digital copies? Because they're perfect, you say? Well well well then, if you make an imperfect copy, even a digital one at reduced bit-rate (and Dish and Direct already reduce the bit-rate a hell of a lot), then it shouldn't be subject to copyright anymore then, should it?

The Openbox will reject most firmware files that are not designed for it. If you did manage to load a file that bricked the receiver, you could probably recover by using the cable loader program to flash the correct file. This was done back when we were looking for a solution for the motor/switch problem.

There are .pdf files available that explain how to change the boot or background/radio images. These images are easy to change if you use the correct loader program. They guy over at Fridge claims you need to take the firmware apart to change the boot image which is a joke.

I doubt anybody has been in touch exclusively with Openbox about the firmware issues for North America because we are not big customers in the world market. New files were released for Europe in 2011 but nothing for North America that improves our issues such as the green tint problem.
If somebody has been in touch with Openbox exclusively, they could prove it by releasing a file nobody else has. Good Luck with that one.

I have not figured out how to change the boot image...I have a program to do it....but the file will not load into the channel editor so I didn't try to put it in the box. I found a lot of info on a Megasat 800 HD that they have hacked the firmware to even play videos. It has clock in standby on/off...all kinds of cool stuff...

I have the original FW, hacked FW, loader...all of it....and their abs files all load into the editor and display just fine. The original FW looks just like ours (parts of it) except for sat names, they're different....through a hex editor compare.

They say the hacked FW needs a new bootloader...I have it too...scared to mess with that...but that original FW is temping...Go to youtube and search for megasat 800 HD and watch them.

Receiver Megasat HD 800 :: MegasatHD-800 :: HDTV Receiver

Our FW showes 32 favorites list place holders in the bin...the megasat states it has 32 favs...The hacked FW has 720P and 1080P output. Not to mention all the network stuff it does which I think is for card sharing...but it does have update by network! Too much to list.

It is a good example of what the box can do!

All of the tools and information that you need to change the openboxS9 background or boot image can be found in this link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VV1BQA5Y

Usually, To change a receiver to function as a different receiver, a jtag is needed.
I know several people that have tried to put different software on the Openbox but none of them worked. The Megasat is an interesting piece. Maybe somebody will find a way to convert.
I am expecting a new receiver to be introduced soon that may satisfy some of us. Hopefully 2011 will be good for FTA.
Thanks for the Megasat info. GregH
