I currently have my 722k connected via broadband. It would appear that (contrary to Dish's documentation) there is nothing it can't do that a phone connection could (except caller-id of course)

If I connect a phone line in addition to the broadband (to get caller-id) are there any functions that will get pulled back from broadband to the phone line? I'd like the broadband to be used for everything but caller-id.

Can you view your bill? I am plugged into both and can't even after seeral calls to support. They told me you need a phone line for this function (and some others.)

Both my 622 & 722 are hooked up both ways--broadband & phone line. Never disconnected the phone line when I hooked up the broadband. No problems. Hope this helps.

Yes, I believe the Customer Support through Dish Home needs a phone line. I believe everything else is handled by Ethernet, except caller ID.

Also, you can't play DishGames or Playin' TV without a phone line. You can't participate in tournaments or vote in polls without a phone line. This has me puzzled. With DirecTV, you can do all of that with a an Ethernet connection. The Ethernet connection completely replaced the need of a phone line. But with Dish, you can't view your statement, pay your bill, or do anything interactive except Dish On Demand. I find that puzzling. Why don't they just allow the Ethernet connection to completely replace the need of a phone line? Many are going to cell phone service exclusively as I have. This is technically possible to achieve and I hope Dish takes care of this soon.
