Hello,
As you may have guessed by now I am a newbie to FTA. To give you just a little info, I am a technical type person but quite dumb as far as FTA goes and no doubt need to learn a lot to become independent.
Anyway, enough of that.
Current Status
I have completed the physical installation and have done my best to be meticulous insofar as getting the hardware mounted and connected correctly. From a hardware standpoint everything appears to be operable. I can get a limited signal stength (about 35 ->40) and quality of about 8-> 10. I can jog the motor if I go on the roof and use the manual buttons, and every once in a while the dish will rotate on it's own. (I may have stumbled onto a correct move command at the receiver) I even received some music from a Galaxie sat. Haven't gotten video yet.
I don't truly know what to do next,
This Nfusion booklet sucks
I'm guessing that I don't have things like LNB freq set right, TP configuration and so on. (I haven't a clue) Can you run me through one complete satelite setup or whatever the next thing I should do.
Short equip and location summary;
Nfusion,30"dish with invacom LNB. DiSEqC 1.2 motorized H-H Motor. cables are hooked from LNB to switch (one on L and one on C) then to motor then from motor to receiver. Motor is presently at "0" position and pointed due south. Elevation is locked in at 43 deg and declination at 30. LNB skew is at 0. My present position is Windsor Ontario LatN42.12.787 Lon W 83.06.188.
I'm going to bow out at this point to keep this note from getting any longer.
Thanks in advance
Roy

What sat did you use for due south? Probably should use 82 just to get a good reading on S and Q then scoot over to 83 and do the same and lock it but I'm 4 hours up the road and could be off on my guess.

Make sure you understand where you are looking on the Dish and Motor to set angles, the indicators are sometimes not well marked. Post a Pic if you can.
Motor Latitude(not elevation) set to Your Latitude: 42
Dish Elevation: 23

"LNB switch" called a DiSEqC switch:
Port 1 to the "L" port on the Invacom LNB
Port 2 to the "C" port on the Invacom

In the receivers Sat / Dish setup menu:
Look for SBS6, Galaxy 17, Horizons 2 - 74 west
LNB Type: Standard
LNB Freq: 10750
LNB Power: ON
Motor: USALS Enter Your Long and Lat, be sure to Select North and West
TP / Transponder: Look for 11733(+ / - 1)

Have receiver "drive" to Sat @ 74 west, should travel East for about 5 - 10 seconds
You are looking for "Quality"

If possible, bring the receiver and small TV to the Dish

since your true south is AMC9 at 83W I would lock onto that. That would make it easier

Make sure your receiver has one of the following programmed into it
12140 V 30000
12160 H 30000
12180 V 30000
frequency/polarity/symbol rate

The aaim the setup. Since they are data transponders there will be no pictures but will give a good strong signal

Newbie help

:welcome

Here are some screen shots of information from www.satsig.net

Be sure to enter your lat & lon like in upper line of screen shot.

If you put lat & lon in your receiver then it will try to do USALS which is good for beginners but your motor may not do USALS if it's a SG2100. Some do and some don't.!sadroll

The protractor is the most accurate way of setting your dish (41.14degrees)correctly. Make sure you use the Latitude scale on the motor bracket and your dish elevation about what it says in the manual 23.5. But there are manufacturing errors that may throw that off, so use the protractor. :D:bow

So don't forget the offset of your dish, say 24 degree offset subtract 41.14 = 17.14 0n protractor.

If you have an SG2100 the brackets tend to twist as you tighten down the clamp. :yikes

First of all thanks to all for the response.

To Andyb2 .... I'm not sure of which satelite I was on at the time, I was too busy getting frustrated. I will check out 82

To Lak7 .... Your suggestions, up on the roof have just been corrected and the config stuff will be next on the list.

To Iceberg ... likewise, next.

To all ..... sorry about the misuse of terms, but what the heck, I get some newbie licence, right?
Wish me luck, I will keep you posted. Thanks again,
Budweiser.

To Iceberg .....

For 82 west, you need to enter a couple different details:
In the receivers Setup Menu
LNB Freq: 11250
DiSEqC: Port 2, or as you wired it.

No significant improvement as of yet. I re-initialized the receiver to eliminate any possible troubles I could have introduced earlier.
I'm thinking that I have to focus on why the motor is not rotating from the receiver commands. I haven't gotten the thing to respond as of yet. The status light at the motor shows power, it jogs on the buttons at the motor, but no motion as of yet via the receiver.
I'm going to have to continue tomorrrow (too dangerous on the roof in the dark).
But we're having fun though ......

Hello all.
I think the USALS is back in.
After thinking about it today, here's my plan. Iceberg, seems to be suggesting that at my true South I should get at AMC9 at 83W to tune the dish angles. I don't see AMC9 on my pull down list. I added it as a user1 with an LNB freq of 10750. Since I had to do this I am leary of getting off track and am wondering if I should be trying another that shows on the list. It sounds like all of you are pointing toward getting the angle troubles out of the way before worrying about the motor moving by the receiver commands. I'm getting ready to set up a portable television out in the yard where I can watch the signal change when moving the dish around manually.

by the way, something I just thought of. I have the ability to capture screen shots of the dish pages on my computer and can therefore post bmp files

I'm up !!!

Thanks to you all. Did a lot of reading, and alot of experimentation.
Now to start understanding which satellites to seek out and so on, and son and so on some more .....

p.s. sure invented a lot of choice words while up on the roof. (can't repeat any here)
