Another bump in the road for BD

Toshiba launches its super upconverting player - BLU STATE - Blog on Video Business Online

The interesting part is that the player is priced at only $150, much more affordable than a Blu-ray player, and in this uncertain economy, that will come through loud and clear to many people.

But, the difference between DVD and Blu-ray (let's be honest) isn't night and day, like it was with VHS and DVD.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's video enhancement capabilities are only slightly better than a sub $100 upconverting player. Toshiba stubbornly launches the un-Blu-ray, XD-E500 DVD player - Engadget HD

Budgeted-minded J6PKs not ready for BD will likely go the cheaper upconverting route... videophiles already have Oppos or will hold out for BD players to drop to $200.

I don't see this impacting BD player sales any more than what's out there already.

Even Toshiba backed off their BR killer claims.

Pretty bad when even the electronics blogs that hailed HDDVD are busting on Toshiba now.
