Taping Friday Night Lights Premiere in MPEG4 last week on local NBC HD (obviously if it was MPEG4 it was HD) it recorded the audio background noises and music soundtrack but no charachters speaking, commercials were fine. What gives??? Now OTOH the local NBC is the one channel that gives me the most trouble with the 8MM skipping effect, bad audio and stuff which leads me to think maybe it's the broadcaster because I get none of this from the local MPEG4 ABC and FOX (for some reason I suspect greed by the local CBS it's not on the DTV sat. yet, the station is for sale so the signal is hostage I think which sucks for me because the HR20 OTA tuner does not work yet for some unexplained reason). Anyone have any ideas?

The HR20 OTA tuner hasn't yet been activated because of software issues. It will be soon, maybe later this month.
I have the same issues as you with Mpeg-4 stations once in awhile. It's almost always the CBS local. No suggestions there from me. We'll have to live with it till it gets fixed I guess.....

I guess i'll have to start taping some shows in Sd too as a back up on NBC on my upstairs set, too bad I missed the first show, I still am starting to believe it's somehow my local station on some of these issues, otherwise why is it always the same one with all the problems. But maybe not.

Have you called your local network and ask tyhem if they are having transmission trouble getting the feed to the sat provider ?
When you call ask to talk to the Chief Engeneer, once you get ahold of them, they generally are pretty helpful.

I'd certainly say it's your local NBC screwing up. If the commercials were fine but the show itself wasn't that means they are messing up the network feed they are getting. All too common and DirecTV or Dish simply pass on the signal they get from the local station.
