Well I finally finished the conversion of my 4 foot VSAT dish to C band with success. My first attempt worked but i had trouble keeping some channels. After remeasuring I discovered my LNB was an inch higher from where it should be. The LNB worked well with no scaler ring but the conical scaler added up to 30 points on the Q reading for some transponders.
Here is a list for 74w to 103w I compiled yesterday with a CNX Nano DVB-S only
83w
Pennsylvania Cable network - choppy and weak
Canal Siete Mexico - barely watchable
87w
2 NY horse racing feeds - good Q
1 channel with horse racing times - good Q
1 religious radio channel on 4044 - weak
Comcast channels scrambled - good Q
91w
CW channels - Strong Q
The Word Network - Strong
2 TV Montana channels - 1 weak and the other with decent Q
2 Jewelery TV channels - both solid picture but 1 stronger than the other
Fox networks scrambled - strong Q
2 horse racing network channels - good Q
EWTN channels - strong
DMX music channels - good Q
Univision KLUZ - weak barely watchable
95w
7 horse racing feeds - weak
LPTV 4 channels - locked once but had a lower symbol rate than listed
97w
BYU empty channel - weak to good Q
Legacy TV - good Q
LPTV (two univision and two CBS affiliates) higher symbol than 95w - Strong Q
99w
KCWY NBC - good to strong Q
GDMX WB feeds - strong Q
KCHF - good Q
MyFamilyTV (empty channel) - good Q
Living Faith TV - weak
Puerto Rico Network - strong Q
Virgin Island Networks - good to strong Q
Armed Forces network (only the Pentagon and guide channel ITC) - weak to good Q
TV puebla (sound only mpeg4) - good Q
LeSEA networks - strong Q and easiest channels to get
101w
Gods learning channel - good to strong Q
I could not get anything off of 103w but I do have tree trouble from about this position and on further west. My dish once locked on the pole has a 30 degree range of movement so that is why I stopped at 74w on the lower end.
The most disappointing was 87w as I thought I should get NASA and MeTV but not even a blip. I ended up leaving the dish on 99w for the networks and feeds.
I thought the WSI ESX241 LNB did very well but do wonder if the competing BSC that others here have used could do any better. The conical scaler was a worthwhile purchase especially that it came with the bracket to mount the LNB.
I have some pictures if anyone needs them.
