Hello, I was looking for ku fta and found feeds on AMC2 and AMC4 and seems they are on the same 101 location. The way they label and identify the different satellites is confusing. I remember the old days of c band I had a chart of all the satellites and their location. Is that list around any longer? With the updated names.

I am not sure that I understand what you are saying, but I do think that some channels are broadcast on more than one satellite, if that means anything for your inquiry.

Not only do they change the name of the satellite when they sell or replace it. they also do it when one company takes over another . Sometimes they do it just as a pr move because it makes their old satellite sound a little newer.
It is truly annoying to have to constantly go to Lyngsat to figure out what satellite the person is referring to.
I support referring to the satellite by its orbital longitude, such as 101 w Ku or 127 w C. Unless the planet tips on its axis, the longitude isn't going to change.
I see no real value in trying to keep up with internal corporate decisions on satellite names. It's unnecessarily complicated and creates unnecessary work.
"97 W Ku" tells you all you need to know, and involves no morre typing than the official name.

I mean that amc2 and amc4 are on the same satellite location at 101* in orbit. I did not know this. Thats great if one wants fta from both amc2 and amc4.
While I do completely agree with Lone Cloud's sentiment, there is one annoying factor...
The 4DTV receivers still use two letter designations for the satellites.
Anyone with that service is stuck in the 90's using the unchanging and obsolete terminology.
So, folks running both 4D subscriptions and anything else, may be inclined to use those old designators.

I understand what you mean now. Yes, that can be a little confusing if you don't keep up with the physical or ownership changes in the sats. Geeze, a whole boat load of sats are improperly named in my system. I don't mind to much, as long as I go off the orbital position, and I blind scan, I don't hav too much trouble. I am only into the Ku band sats right now, so that helps a little.

I also started yet another thread about sat at 97 and 101 and could I use a multi bracket for getting them both from my 1.2 dish on 97. I hope some that use multi brackets can give me the thumbs up as it could be done. I tried to get 83 and 97 with my bracket with no success. too far apart but 97 and 101 are just 4* apart.
AMC2 moved there to help AMC4 prolong its life.
There are spots in the arc where more than one satellite is there. As long as the frequencies dont cross its OK
The main reason is to prolong a satellite's life. If the frequencies are split among 2 satellites then the sat uses less gas & power
