I just received this email from Amazon:

"We're writing to let you know that the Amazon Video app will no longer be available on your 2011 LG Blu-ray player after September 14, 2015.

This means you won't be able to stream movies and TV shows directly from the Amazon Video app on your 2011 LG Blu-ray player. As we continually seek to improve our service, this occasionally means we can no longer support certain devices or features.

You can continue to stream Amazon Video on hundreds of other devices, including newer Smart TV and Blu-ray models, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Roku, game consoles, Android and iOS phones and tablets, and your computer's web browser.

You can learn more about compatible devices and register a new device at:

https://www.amazon.com/instantvideo/devices

Sincerely,

Customer Service

I followed the link and noticed that there are no LG Blu-ray players listed at all - only LG TVs. It states that you can continue to stream on newer Blu-ray models but it appears there will no longer be support for any LG Blu-ray player - old or new. Seems pretty fishy to me that they can support Sony Blu-ray players as old as 2009 but they can't support an LG model from 2011 that is currently working fine. Has anyone else received a notification? Anyone have any idea if Amazon really needs to do this to 'improve our service'? Thanks!

Well, I think I figured out why they are making the change. They are now 'graciously' offering to sell Amazon Fire Sticks (which won't be happening in my case) at a discounted price. I received this email yesterday:

Hello,

Earlier, we wrote to inform you that the Amazon Video app will no longer be available on your 2011 LG Blu-ray player after September 14, 2015. This means you won't be able to stream movies and TV shows directly from the Amazon Video app on your 2011 LG Blu-ray player.

To continue to access Amazon Video on your TV after this date, you can connect a compatible streaming device (e.g. Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Fire TV Stick) or game console (e.g. PlayStation and Xbox).

To make sure you can still stream Amazon Video titles after this date, we'd like to offer you a $10 discount on an Amazon Fire TV Stick, which brings the price down to $29 (more than 25% off the regular list price).

To redeem this offer:

1. Go to: https://www.amazon.com/fireTVstick .
2. Add an Amazon Fire TV Stick to your Cart and proceed to checkout.
3. On the "Select a Payment Method" page, enter 5NJH-JS33FY-QR42CU under "Gift Cards & Promotional Codes."
4. Place your order.

You'll see the promotional credit reflected in your order details. This offer is available until October 7, 2015. See the following link for the full terms and conditions:

You can also learn more about other compatible devices, and register a new device at:
