AL Central 2010

11th inning

A. Jackson singles to start it off and Johnny Damon hits one out and the Tigers win it !!!!!

Btw, base hits 2500 and 2501 for Damon tonight.

Ya know ...... Dave Dombrowski usually works very quietly when working a trade.
I haven't heard anything about the Tigers pursuing anyone ..... wonder if he's pulling a trade for Cliff Lee ?

Peavey injured

Chicago White Sox Ace Jake Peavey was injured tonight.

Originally looked real bad, then later said it might be just a back issue, not as bad as originally thought.
Hopefully for them.

Tigers Gallaraga sent to Toledo and Reliever Robbie Wainhardt brought up....

This gives the Tigers another releiver in the pen and Gallaraga goes to Toledo and pitches down there over the ASG and comes back up and makes his next start for the Tigers after the ASG.

kinda shocked last night that considering how hot it was in Toronto they opened the roof (they closed it during BP)

game time temp is suppose to be 34 with humidex around 42-43
(translation...93 with heat index at 107 tonight at game time)

The Tigers sure have a flair for the dramatic. Galarraga sent down because they have no need for a 5th starter over the next two weeks. He'll make a start down there and return to the club when his spot in the rotation comes up then. They didn't want him to throw on 3 days rest.

Mid-season grades.

Outfield - A
Didn't envision such strong performances by two rookies here. Boesch would be ROY if the voting was done today. 5 tool player. Jackson is making everyone forget about Granderson. He could be a fixture here in CF for a long time. As for Magglio, well he's being Maggs. What more could you ask for? Despite last nights heroics, Damon needs to light a fire under his ass. I understand that he DH's often, but he gets games in the OF too.

INFIELD - B

This grade is inflated by Cabrera's mighty bat. Inge has been hitting much better of late, and Guillen's bat is also showing signs recovery. His defense leaves something to be desired. Absolutely no hitting from C and SS.

Defense - C

How is this? On paper they looked really solid, but the stat's say these guys aren't getting the job done. Fortunately it hasn't cost them many games.

Starting rotation - C

Way too inconsistent after Verlander, although I do like what I see from Scherzer and Galarraga this past month. Will the real Bonderman ever show up?

Bullpen -A

If I have to explain this grade, you haven't been watching. Like Yogi Berra said - "If you ain't got a bullpen, you ain't got nothing." Losing Zumaya was a blow, but maybe Perry will fill the slot this time around. I couldn't say anything bad about Valverde. Well maybe his eyeglasses are kinda weird.

Bench - C

Not a great bench, not a bad bench, We could use a really good PH.

Coaching - A

OK. I'm a Leyland fan, no secret there. So maybe my grade is a little high, but on some nights we have 5 rookies in the line-up, and we are in first place. Think hard about that for a while.

I hoping that Dombrowski takes a run at Cliff Lee. If only to keep him from the Twins. We have an advantage in that we have more farm talent to trade then they do. I also believe Illitch will pony up to keep him here. A lot of money and a couple of prospects, but this guy would be worth it. I still see them acquiring a SS too.At any rate Dombrowski has set this team up to be competitive in the Central for the next 5 years.

Indians Midseason Grades

Well, since Paul did one for the Tigers, I felt compelled to do one for the Indians. And now, without further adieu....

Outfield: F
Terrible

INFIELD: F
Lousy

Starting rotation: F
Embarrassing

Bullpen: F
Inexcusable

Bench: F
Amateurish

Coaching: F
Incompetent

There was a letter sent home to all the players parents that these kids have been put on Academic Watch. If they don't improve during the second semester, they'll be expelled from the league! Tutors are available... for a cost. Since your provider (team owner Larry Dolan) is piss poor, you don't have much choice, but to continue sucking.

There's something to be said about "short and sweet". Hey at least you aren't going to lose 119 games.

Just my take on the whole grade situation. I rank the Twins as a more talented team, and I think Jim Leland is the difference for the Tigers.

He's got them in 1st at this point in the season, can't do much better then that.

Anyone see the dude who fell 60 feet from the upper deck trying to catch a foul ball? It was during the Texas/Indians game last night.

It was only 30ft. but I'm sure the story will grown to be more than 100ft. since everything is bigger in Texas. Anyway, I cannot say that I am surprised after having lived in the area the past couple years.

Man falls 30 feet reaching for foul ball during Indians game - WHIO Local News on newstalkradiowhio.com

The really ODD thing about this is, when another person fell back in '94, they raised the bar from 30" (maybe it was 36", I don't remember) to 48", thats 4 feet.
How do you fall over a 4 FT fence ?

Unless they only upgraded part of the park, this I didn't hear.

WEEI's Dennis and Callahan to be simulcast live on NESN

Don't look now, but Steve Lavin is making St. John's relevant again
