AL Central 2010

They had a pitcher pinch run?
yes

Didn't know that was allowed in an AL home game.
why not? He's a player. No rule on who can pinch run or pinch hit. He started yesterday so he **technically** could play today. Heck the supposed starting pitcher for Milwaukee pitched yesterday (and lost) so they threw an emergency guy in for 3 innings then that pitcher who was suppose to start came in the 4th

Soooo, he would've had to bat too if they didn't untie it??? That'd be a first...
no he wouldnt have. I'll try to explain it IIRC from the game

Thome PH for the 3rd baseman Harris
Slowey PR for him (Thome)

so if the Twins would have tied it Alexi Casilla who was in CF because Span left after getting hit with a pitch would have gone to 3rd (he's normally an infielder). Cuddyer who was in RF would go to CF and Kubel who was the DH would have gone to RF thus forfeiting the DH.

So whoever would have been pitching when (or if) their turn at bat came would have had to bat since the Twins used all position players. Since it would have been Harris spot in the lineup it would have been a whole turn through the linep

Twins lose 4-3 in a wacky game

Corey Hart is in the books as the 1st guy to hit the 3rd deck at Target Field (row 1 but hey its the 3rd deck)

Kinda weird to see Thome PH for Brendan Harris in the 9th....walk...then gets lifted for PR KEVIN SLOWEY (yes, yesterdays starting pitcher).....which frankly didnt make sense. That had the bases loaded. The run on 2nd would win the game, not on 1st. The Twins already depleted the roster with moves earlier so had it gone to extras Kubel had to be put in the field and leave his DH position so the pitcher would have to bat anyways. Thome was last guy on bench.. Is Thome really that slow or hurt?

Thome is really that S....l ..... o..... w.

Tigers at one point (8th maybe) had man on third needing a insurance run, brought Dontrelle Willis to the plate. He has a .233 BA, (better than Laird and other Tigers from time to time), a fly ball would plate the run.

Torre panicked .... not really, but he brought in a reliever to face Willis !
Leyland pulled Willis put in Everett and proceeded with a successful Suicide Squeeze !!!!

I have to edit this....Nick Punto PR for Kubel and technically was now the DH. If they would have tied it Punto would have gone to 3rd and forfeited the DH

Sadly the Twins were screwed. When Thome came up there were 2 outs. They "walked" Thome on 4 pitches and took their chances against the rookie Plouffe. If Gardenhire waited then Harris was up and didnt do anything and there were two outs

so you're damned either way...

Even when they give Morneau a day off Cuddyer plays 1B, Kubel plays RF and Thome DH's

so the Twins even have a backup plan when Morneau gets a day off

wah wah cry me a river Tommy

By the way.....funny how the Tigers play more "cellar dwellers" in IL...looks like a cupcake IL schedule after the Dodgers

Rest of Twins IL schedule and where they are right now
Braves..2nd
Rockies..4th
Phillies..1st
Mets..5th
Brewers..5th

Tigers
Pirates..4th
Nats..4th
D-Backs..5th
Mets..5th
Braves..2nd

Really the schedules are quite similar.

Tigers just finished with a tough Dodgers team (1 or 2nd, 2nd, 1 game back)
and play the Braves (as do the Twins) 2nd place

Phillies are on the Twins schedule, not the Tigers.
The rest are 4th and 5th place teams currently for both teams.

I'm aware of it Jimbo

But Tom seems to use the excuse that the Tigers are in 2nd place (in May no less!!!) because the Twins are playing a cellar dweller

OK...so when Detroit plays Seattle (a cellar dweller) this week and the Twins play the Yankees this week if for some reason come the weekend the Twins are in 2nd I'll use his excuse then ;)

IIRC, back in the way before DH days, the Twins occasionally used Jim Kaat (a starting pitcher and excellent baseball player) as a pinch hitter.

Yankees? Piece of cake, Tigers beat them 3 out of 4.

SQUIRREL!!!!

MINNEAPOLIS -- Tuesday night's Yankees-Twins contest at Target Field was delayed momentarily during the fourth inning when a squirrel ran onto the field.

Alex Rodriguez was at the plate facing Twins starter Scott Baker when a squirrel appeared, sitting by the left-field foul line. The squirrel caused play to stop when it started to run toward third base. Twins third baseman Brendan Harris did a little stutter-step jump when the squirrel ran near his feet before Yankees third-base coach Rob Thomson tried to shoo the squirrel into left field.

With a light rain falling as the squirrel made its way across left field, the crowd at Target Field started to cheer and chant "Let's go squirrel!"

After the squirrel settled itself momentarily in left field, play was resumed and Rodriguez finished his at-bat by striking out on a foul tip.
I was watching the game and it was pretty funny to see the squirrel running the warning track.
Bert Blyleven rocks when it comes to things like this. Dick Bremer said" wonder how the squirrel got on the field" and Bert says "maybe from those trees in CF" then talks about Nat'l Lampoons X-Mas vacation when they bring the tree in and a squirrel was in it

He finishes it with "Maybe the squirrel will jump in the stands. That'd be funny"

WEEI's Dennis and Callahan to be simulcast live on NESN

Don't look now, but Steve Lavin is making St. John's relevant again
