I recently purchased a DM 500-S receiver and have been trying to align the dish. I'm hoping you can guide me how to aim my dish. Using now a Wingard 1000 Satfinder, but a bit confused how to aim the dish. However, I can only get 50% on SNR and 65 to 85 % on AGR. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I have a FSS. I'm using a white DirecPC dish (approx. 38 inches) with a
linear KU LNB.
I'm using SMLink 3.0 software to get my Satellite coordinates to aim the
dish. Latitude 26.0, Longitude= -98.0.
Azimuth= 177.71 Polarization angle= -2.1 Elevation= 59.59 Magnetic
deviation= 5.0
However, if I use the Sadoun calculator it gives me a different reading.
Why? Nearest coordinates are Latitude 26.24 Longitude= 98.34
Azimuth = 183.00 Polarization Angle 2.7 Elevation= 59.3
Trying to aim dish at -97.0 (Telestar 5) for starters. What is my magnetic
north or true north for -97.0. I believe to get true north you have to
subtract the magnetic deviation from the 177.71-5.0=172.71. Is that
correct? So, then I turn the dish left or due east to approximately
172.71. Adjust elevation to 59.59 and tilt dish polarization to -2.1 if I
use SMLink software. I then use the Satfinder to fine tune the satellite
coordinates. When I try those settings I cannot get a lock on the
satellite. As you can see I get confused when I compare them to above
coordinates. I'm doing something wrong. What is it?
Thank you SatelliteGuys if you can find time to help me.
