advice needed on roof mount antenna.

I am looking at roof mounted antenna options for an ota in a Dish 722k. Here is my tvfool report.

IF all you want is the locals I'd go with a simple UHF only antenna (since all your local Dayton stations are UHF)

But if you want to try to get Cincy I'd go with a HBU44 or a 91XG. The 91XG is UHF only so the CBS in Cincy wouldnt come in (its on RF12) but the HBU44 would probably bring it in (that is both VHF & UHF)

Won't the 91XG have too much gain for stations just 8-9 miles away like 2 and 7? Seems like you could pick up the stations 50ish miles away with it (5, 9, etc) pretty well, tho.

A simple 2 bay bow tie style antenna for Dayton or a 4 bay if you want the Cincy stations(except for channel 12). For bad weather stability on the Cincy stations you would need to move up to something like Iceberg suggested.

You probably can get every local station with a simple indoor antenna but going outdoors will give you a more stable picture.

Just a raw unamplified signal will never overload your tuner, unless you are extremely close, like 100ft from the actual antenna itself, not just the tower.

Thanks for the clarification Jim! Won't the OP need a pre-amp to get stations from 50 miles away?

Just asking because I'm only 22mi from the DC towers, and needed a pre-amp on my 8-bay bow tie in order to receive any signal, but I have a long cable run to my TV (60' or more).

As long as the antenna is relatively directional, the AGC in the tuner will tone it down. If your antenna isn't directional, you'll likely flood your tuner with multipath.
