well the front projector plan fell through however i plan on getting a 32" toshiba sdtv.

This has s-video and componet, however the 905 does not

from my basic understanding off electronics

the digital video goes to a DAC which takes the video and converts it to the analog format on a tv

this guy-------------------->

so from what i know, a guy oughta be able to find on this video dac, where to add wires so he could have s-video, maybe even componet

i did some looking at the 905 circuit board we have a chip that says dg-II ok thats the dg-II chip, we have the conexant chip, that is the cpu

so where on this board is the dac? if i can get a block diagram, then i could make a componet or svideo output

I've never peeked inside a 905, although I scratched around a 920 looking for the transport stream to avoid buying a HDD-100/200 unit for HD. That was a success and worth the trouble.

However in the 920 there are a fair number of GI-custom chips in the video path for which I doubt one could ever get pin-outs and/or specs. If the 905 is at all similar, you will probably be wasting your time unless you are handy with a scope, know exactly what you are looking for and are very lucky. If the pins happen to be there you may also have to perform SMT surgery on a multilayer board. This isn't like the bad old days where a soldering iron and an Xacto knife could do the trick. In many ways doing this is a LOT harder than I'm making it sound.

Regardless, while component and s-video are generally higher quality than composite, I very much doubt you would notice much of a difference with only a SD signal. From your descriptions, it is apparent that you have quite a few holes in your expertise. I would suggest a little less ambitious project to start with.

Fizzle wants to smoke his 905   It ain't as easy as taping off some pins to get the S signal. Even if you found a place for the signal it may be missing other components and be disabled in the software.

If I were you I would not be concerned by the difference in composite to S. S actually shows up more digital artifacts then composite does. If your looking to get rid of dot crawl on the NPS feeds, you will be surprised it will still be there on S. Since Crawford is using composite to connect the decoders to encoders.

If you really have to have S get a 922, that way you'll have S on analog too.

Hmmm... lets see, Fizzle opens up the 905...
Fizzle pokes around inside the 905...
Fizzle releases the "magic smoke" from the 905...
Fizzle now has no reason to visit the 4DTV area...
CARRY ON FIZZLE! You can DO IT! :D

Then this area will be a Fizzle Free Zone :D:up

I dont get why when you have something working just fine you want to possibly ruin it.

Just use the A/V cables and you'll be fine. I use those on my 905 to the HDTV and it looks fine.

lot more time then you think you have today im going to take an old 13" toshiba tv and redo the circuit board ttyl

All jokes aside Fizzle, Composite video out of the 905 will look fine. SD is SD, 480 lines of low res is all this TV you want to get will do anyway. Save up a few more $$, get yourself an HD set, and upgrade your FTA system to include an HD box for that 10 foot dish, and you'll see how good TV can look. :D:up
