Just picked up a used GI DSR920 and wanted to add it to my current set-up to pick up analog feeds and maybe sub to some of the available KU digital programming on X4.

I don't mind slaving the DSR920, however it seems to not be an ideal scenario (limited to receive only the polarity of whatever the master box is set on, etc.). Since 4dtv is all new to me, I have a few questions:

Could I split the coax coming into the house and run lines to both boxes? If so, could the DSR920 move my HH motor or would I have to drive the motor to the satellite with my Fortec? Does the DSR920 have the ability to recognize Diseqc commands?

My set-up: Primestar 84E & Invacom QPF-031 on STAB HH100. Both circular and linear lines run through a diseqc 4x1 switch to my Fortec Mercury II.

no and no

The 4DTV boxes do not work with diseqc switches (no way to change it in the settings) and it will not control a HH motor. It will control a C-Band actuator :)

The easiest thing to do (IMO) is since you have the QPH031 (I assume that since you said circular & linear) run one line from the L side ot the 920. The DVB reciever will still control the motor but then the 920 can get both polarities

I do that with the 905.

I, too, have a GI 920 4DTV receiver, and it is ok, as far as using it on the FTA/4DTV setup. Please understand I am using a 8 foot BUD for this setup. If you have a BUD then what you fixin' to read will work for you. The actuator and feedhorn are operated bv the 920.
I use the 920 as a primary receiver since it will change the polarity. I use the Pansat 2000v as the slave unit to get the C band FTA frequencies. I use the RG6 cable from the LNB (15 degrees and for DIGITAL signals) and run it to the LNB IN of my Pansat and have a short RG 6 cable that go from the LOOP OUT of my Pansat to the LNB IN of my 4DTV.
Right now I am giving you a rundown on how it can be done and I am sure there are other 4DTV users that uses this receiver as part of the FTA/4DTV setup.
There are good channels to be found on the C band side of the fta frequencies.
I hope this info will give you some ideal and be of some help. Keep us posted...

Thanks for the replies. I will probably just go ahead and run one line from the L side of my QPF-031 to the 920 to pick up the KU stuff.

One other question - for picking up feeds, how do you program specific transponder info. into the receiver?

Hopefully it will already be in it. What you need is for X4 to be programmed into it to get the X4 channels. And also hopefully it's recently been upgraded (remapped), as there are some fairly new channels on X4. If they are not already in it, you will need to take it to a friend with a BUD (C-band dish) and get the maps from G1/G15 channel 3, or from one of the digital Movie channels (HBO,Showtime. or Starz), and usually done on G1/G15, or G0/G10, or (I think) C3/AMC11, which are C-band. I don't know if the maps will work with any of the Movie channels on X4? Hope this helps.

Al

The maps are on C-Band only. I got them from Showtime on G5/G14 when I got my 905

As voomvoom noted, you have to get the maps either on G1 TP3 (which also has the EPG) or off one of the DCII movie channel muxes

Without a current C-band set-up, is there any way how to program specific transponder/frequency info. into the receiver (for feeds, etc.)?

DCII really doesn't have feeds. The channels are mapped via the receiver and when new channels come (channels that are 24/7) then they have to be remapped

Does that apply only to the digital channels? If so, can I use this receiver to pick up KU analog channels/feeds?

yes the 920 can get free analog channels. The 905 is digital only but 920 can do both digital & analog :)

move to AMC2 (85W) and dial up TP24..should be a test card there

Chuck, I got my 920 friday night and spent almost the entire weekend trying to figure some things out. I have had no success with KU so far but some questions and answers in this thread have already helped. Good luck.
Is Chuck Boozer your real name ? :)

I also just received my unit last week (couldn't resist for only $20).

While I do not have C-band, I have been able to achieve some limited success with KU. I guess it will just take a little while to get accustomed to the receiver.

Iceberg - I apologize if I am being dense, but what if I am trying to pick up analog sports feeds (eg. college football ) that are free but not necessarily 24/7? Is there a way to manually program or tune the receiver to receive these feeds if I know the location?

OK...I thought you meant digital :)

I don't have a 920 so I dont know how analog is set up but analog is mainly the same frequency steps (20k) for the satellites except for SBS6. So it should be able to be set up for analog no issues. Hopefully someone can chime in on how the 920 is set up for analog. If you don't have the manual try the FTA manual section here. That has the manuals to print out or view :)

The 905 I have is digital only so I can't get analog (the 905 sidecar hooks up to an existing analog box)

I believe it's somewhere in Options, adjust picture setting. The manual says it is mentioned in the reference guide. Anyone have this reference guide ?

Try Options,6,7,7,8 and you will see a tuning option. I found it last night but ran out of time to play with it. Let us know if you figure anything out. I still can't get KU at all but I will figure that out when I get some time.

I got some programming on X4 last night. Blackbelt TV and DMX music. Great picture and sound. Where else will I find some free programming ? I will probably get the X4 KU package. Seems like a good deal for some good channels.

K3 (AMC3 KU) has Georgia PBS and K5 (AMC5 KU) has Oklahoma PBS

Thats about it on KU it seems like :(
